Is that not related to having the GPS head unit?

I just browsed the literature for that device and it may have a SIM card in it. If it does, means somebody might be paying for service to that as a mobile device. In addition to being a pretty neat little programmable 12v GPS and mobile network tracking device, it definitely has the capability to do undesireable things.

If you financed your truck through the dealership, I guess you'll eventually find out if unplugging it violates your financing terms

Most of these are dealer add-ons that they charge for at sale. They are prepaid. In some cases dealers put them on for inventory control and forget to take them out. Either way, they have potential benefits (vehicle tracking if stolen or driven by someone else, ability to unlock, etc) but also tangible risk because the companies sometimes mess up. And as noted earlier, there are anecdotal tales of vehicles being bricked by device errors and of drivers left stranded because vehicles are accidentally reported stolen or by employees just shutting down the wrong vehicle.

These are also used by some companies who sell to high-risk customers.

It’s a device made by ELO GPS and serves a number of purposes but it isn’t LoJack.

I have real-world experience with this on a T4R. Too long to type. But in the end, the Bank did me right (forgave the remainder of my loan ($10k-ish) to make me go away. I was the biggest pain in the ass I could be!). I am sure a bunch of County Deputies, the DMV, and I will not forget that day! Funny in hindsight. My sphincter has not relaxed fully yet. Although the bank took care of it, it could have ended tragically...because of a "mistake." I will never do business with that bank again.

I’d like to think this type of device’s presence is buried in the fine print of the sale document, if not, I hope someone is able to do something about it.

I’m pretty thorough when I read through documents and I didn’t see anything about a tracking device, guess I’ll read through it again tomorrow

I’ve seen some of your posts and we bought our trucks about the same time. Lunar rock long boi’s.

mine has/had same device and it does have a sim card in it. I removed the sim card from the unit and removed the unit a couple weeks ago. Nothing has happened yet.

mine is financed, but I’ve had the truck for 2 months and it’s already 25% payed off.

I read through the documents very closely. The finance agreement says they can track via GPS , but it does not say anything about installing a 3rd party gps unit and I did not agree to it. So I figured I can remove it.

Driver’s side. It plugs into the OBD2 port so start there.

It was plugged into the OBD connector and the little box was tucked behind the kick panel
