Recently my truck has developed clunk that I've spent the past week trying to figure out. It only happens when I am completely stopped and I accelerate. Its right at the take off point. I get a thud/clunk. If I really hit it hard, it will do it 3-4 times. If I drive carefully when I first take off from a stop it won't do it at all.

At first I thought it was a motor mount, I inspected those, checked the frame for cracks, it all seems fine. I also check the transmission mount while I was under there, seems good. I also did my front brakes yesterday and everything seemed good and tight in the front end.

It feels like its right under me. I think its the carrier bearing, here is my thought. When I lifted it a while back, I had a slight shimmy/chatter when I would first take off from a complete stop. No other vibrations and it was not bad. I even had couple of other tacoma guys ride in it, and they agreed not that bad and said I should just leave it so I did. this means I never installed the shimms to lower it.

I wiggled the drive shaft and it did seem to move the rubber around quite a bit, but I'm not sure how much movement should be there or not. This is why I'm leaning towards this. The clunk(s) seem to be in line with the shimmy/chatter I would get. I still get it at slow acceleration, but hard acceleration It takes the place of the chatter. It still doesn't do it and doesnt vibrate at any other speeds. In my mind the drive shaft is hitting the outside ring.

I've tried to look up how to replace it, I figure I can get a 2 claw bearing puller and get the old one off the shaft, but how about putting the new one on, I don't have a press. Or.. when you tighten up the nut does it press the bearing on that way?

Any advice, thoughts, ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Oh yeah truck is a 2011 4x4 DCSB

Could be a number of things. I would check lower control arms bushing, rack a pinion bushings, rear leaf spring bushing, carrier bearing, u joint. Imo c.b don't clunk they just vibrate unless it's completely gone. I would check u joint even though they seem tight they could be dry. Get on a creeper and start checking everything with a pry bar and look for movement in bushings
