I was planning on buying these whenever I get some kayaks. Seems like one of the cheaper options with least amount of drilling.

For carpentry, I'd simply suggest getting a ladder rack, it'll give you more coverage and most likely be cheaper (can find these used pretty cheap).

FWIW: For about ten years I had that rack on top of my ARE cap, mounted on a 2005 TRD Access cab 6' bed. It was wicked pissah excellent as we say here in Boston. Hauled a bunch of lumber and camping gear. The only rub was hauling bundles of 16' siding could be a bit floppy since the spread between bars was about 4.5 feet and I didn't have a rack on the cab. You'll also have to be cautious not to overload too much because the cap is fiberglass, but I was able to throw a few hundred pounds on it without any noticeable damage to the cap after all those years. You'd find this issue with any rack though.

I just traded in my 2005 Taco for a 2017 and was hoping to keep my cap and rack. Unfortunately it looks like they lowered the rails on the bed so the cap no longer can mount. Hate to give it up, especially because of that rack.
