I used to have the same experience until I found the wonderous benefits of non-ethanol, super no lead.

“We love the stuff,” says my snow blower, lawn mower, trimmer, chainsaw, tiller and car that spends half the year in storage.

I use the stuff in my chainsaws and post hole auger. Still no comparison to a 40v trimmer. Being able to use it and just put it away is amazing. Quiet, doesn't smell or get hot.

Well I'm trying to decide which mower I want to use for the park tonight. Havent gotten the little rider running yet. Between a 5.5 ft wide rider or a big 13 ft rider. Its only an acre park. I think the 5.5 will make it look much nicer.

We'd need more details than that. Are you looking for a standalone unit? A PTO powered unit (this would be my choice, one less engine to maintain), how big of branches you're looking to chip? Portable by hand, or need to tow?

Also getting a battery for my Titan z today. Hopefully she’ll run long enough to get on and off a trailer. Probably have to do a full fuel system drain. Carb comes in tomorrow hopefully. Should give me something to tinker with this weekend.

Has anyone replaced the governor seal on a 10.5HP Briggs that’s on a Cub Cadet 760? 2009 model.

I’ve done gov seals like that before. Not on a Briggs specifically. Just pull your linkage off and use a pick too pull the old seal?

With the linkage and arm off, will the shaft move?

I believe it does. Clean it all up before you pull the seal out. There should specific angle or whatever it wants the shaft when you put the linkage back on. The shaft more than likely has a hole in it. You put the linkage on loosely and turn the shaft using the hole with a pick too whichever direction the the manufacturer recommends.

ETA: manufacturer will recommend turn shaft all the way right then tighten linkage. Or left. Depends on the manual.

I had a Bobcat zero turn with a B & S V-Twin and it blew the crankcase seal. I had to pull the engine and replace it, it wasn't that bad of a job. If you do try and replace it without pulling the pan and succeed that's awesome. If something goes wrong it's not that bad to pull the crankcase base off and fix it. The governor is pretty simple on the inside.

@CrippledHo you ever done this without removing the crankcase?

I've done it without even pulling the engine. As long as you have good access for tools and can see what you're doing you should be fine.

I’m just worried that I won’t get things lined back up right. It was free, but I’ve already got about $300 in it between carb, cables, tires, and castor yokes.

It’s meant to be adjusted. If it’s out of whack it will run like shit and you’ll hear it. Or it won’t run at all until it’s in spec

    Stand alone.
2" max, I will use a lot wood/branches of even 1-2" size in my fire pit.
Tow with my ZT mower would be OK, larger portable OK
Want an effective shredder for organic mass. Compost is the end goal.

    Good points, thanks!

Replacing the governor is usually a pain. They even teach us to take everything apart to replace it. You can do minor adjustments outside, but a full replacement...we don't even work on riding mowers here. Too large for our shop and don't have the manpower to do that many repairs and rentals

edit: just the seal? Not as sure about that one. Would refer to someone more experienced with that. Never had to do one with our smaller mowers
