The ski slope that I used to volunteer at mowed with a Kubota 2900 HST (30-ish hp) with what I think was a 6 foot King Kutter, and some areas you could only mow downhill because of the power loss from the HST. But, that's also probably considerably steeper terrain than what you're dealing with; mowing down some of the slopes you used to brace your feet on the loader frame to keep from cutting yourself in half with the seatbelt  On milder grades it did fine.

Maybe my exceptions for speed are a little too high. Either way, a little more HP never ever hurts.

You're not mowing in high range, right? That'd kill your power for sure

Oh god no. If the grass is tall, I mow in low range. If it's not very high I can get away with mid range.

That's a turbo motor, right? Personally, I'd prefer a larger-displacement NA motor for something like a tractor, but I'm a traditionalist like that.

Honestly the new stuff over 25hp scares me a little for longevity, due to the non-bypass emissions systems. They've all got amazing warranties now (5-7 years, depending on the brand), but when that expires...

They recommend 8-10 hp per ft of on a brush hog for Max cutting efficiency. I’ve used smaller tractors with 6 ft mowers and you need to cut in lower gear, or make 2 passes

I agree 100% but everything is going small displacement turbo unfortunately. Plus the turbo engine’s are usually less fuel efficient if they are making boost. I have a 4cyl n/a 47hp and it makes alot more low end power than my buddy’s 55hp turbo triple Deere. It’s also much better on fuel, we mow the same field a few times a yr and he will burn a tank and a half to my one tank

I'm pretty sure all of the 1700's are turbo'd...was talking with one of the salesmen at the local Ag Fair this fall and he told me that like I was supposed to be excited about their moving away from low-end torque

    hold please....

Edit- Yep, turbo. Courtesy of my favorite site when I'm tractor shopping:

I bought 3 different mowers from a guy a few months back for a Cub. I sold two of them and trying to put this piece of a puzzle back together. It’s a continental belton ka-5 mower. Pay no attention to the Woods parts, that's one that I sold.

L2501, brushhog, 7' blade, rim guard, etc. I would like to get a box blade later on. The wife wants to asphalt our driveway...

So far after 65 hours it has done everything we have asked. Mowing in mid range. Towing the equipment hauler from the back I use low range.

I would have liked the L3901 or L4701, but just couldn't justify the cost for a snow removal tool.

    Mainly purchased for snow removal:

May 25th of last year we had 22-26" on my driveway. Subaru stuck.

    subarustuck.jpg

I do a little mowing, landscape work, etc. Lately we have been going up to Denver to pick up boulders and landscaping rocks for a water feature.

Well, my understanding of the 2501 is that the engine is the same as what they used to put in the L3400, but it's been detuned to 25hp by governing it to a lower rpm. Not sure if anything fuel related would be needed, but increasing the RPM's would increase the horsepower.
But, it'd probably also void your warranty because you'd have to fiddle with the governor to do it. And your PTO speed would be off at those higher RPM's, also.

My brother works at a Kubota dealership, they say the RTV’s aren’t all that great.

I wonder if the RTV900 is not all that great? We have 3 RTV1100 machines that are great.

Here is one outside my office. This is the lowest hour/miles one we have.

    Interesting....

    Holy smokes.

Most of the other ones that travel from plant to plant have a lot more hours/miles.

That makes me feel pretty good. I think the next major service for my L2501 is hydraulic oil every 800 hours and checking the injection pump every 3000 hours.
