I changed oil in the Kubota today.

    2009 Kubota M9540
Out: Unknown dealer bulk (Changed when we bought it at 573 hours)
In: Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40. I left the OEM filter on since it only has 115 hours on it. I’ll probably run this fill for 100-150 hours and change the oil and filter. Kubota recommends changing the oil every 300 hours and the filter every 600 hours.

All done, got to learn something and will paint it when it cools, or funding allows. Was pretty neat to do 7EB023D8-13C4-4025-86F5-ECC297C2BA7E.jpgDC23B8A2-2D4F-4815-9F58-7519498777E9.jpg

The first thing everyone should learn about fiberglass work -- don't get it in your hair -- your kind of Beatles style hair... :anonymous:

When I was a semi-trailer mechanic we did a lot of fiberglass work. Mostly wall liners and roofs. Sometimes drilling 2000 holes in a translucent roof to rivet it down. I found that hot water and scotchbrite was awesome to get it out of your arms. Gentle scrub takes that stuff right out.

I was patching a wheel well in an old Wagoneer, mixed the resin up good and hot and soaked the cloth good and wet (didn't know zip about glass back then) then slapped my patch up there. Leaned under the fender to get something and my patch (about 12 x 12) fell neatly on my head -- and my Beatles style hair.
    :redxfall:

    The takeaway:
    1) I have had really short hair for the last 35 years
    2) I usually wear a hat when working under things

So I have a B&S Intek 13.5 on a pull mower that runs fine for 30 seconds or so, then sputters, then starts running fine. It is super rich on the way back to idle speed though, belch's black smoke pretty badly. I replaced the carb last year do to a no start issue, but I feel like the carb must be wonky. I also need to check the gas tank and lines, but I feel like it probably is a carb related issue. Since a carb is all of $17 from the big river, I decided to throw cheap parts at it. I also ordered an ignition coil since mice half chewed my current one. It has been that way for 2 years though, so I doubt it's related. Mice have also chewed my gas cap, so I need to find a new one, or I have a tank from a B7100 I will adapt to it.

I did remove the fuel filter and some of the fuel line and no change. I also replaced the fuel pump last year, but wonder about that as well. I also thought maybe I had the clutch set to tight causing the motor to bog on load, but it bogs regardless of cutting. I can pull it over cut grass and it bogs all the same.

I'd swear it sounds like the motor speeds up for a few seconds, then sputters, but it's hard to hear over the motor on my SxS. Also weirdly, if I idle, I don't have any issues at all, only moving. I did try moving the tank and pick up, but no change.

I am thinking it must be a bowl issue or gummed up.

    Thoughts or advice is welcome.

If it’s idling fine it kinda sounds like the high speed jet might be clogged. Generally surging is caused by one or more jets being plugged up.

You can try a fuel additive but they rarely work. I pull the jet and use micro drill bits to clean them out.

This is kind what I was thinking. It seems like it is leaning out, hence the speeding up before it sputters. Unfortunately I have the mower at my cabin and the tools I had at my disposal were limited.

I have some Seafoam, but a new carb is almost as cheap as a can of solvent, so...

I had 4 14mm wrenches and a bunch of sockets, but no ratchet though in my toolbag??? It was that kind of day.

Lol I took the main jet out of one my Honda pushers cuz it seemed lean and was surging.... knowing I already had a carb on order 27.00 and was a Honda carb, I made my hole bigger BUT well.... you know what happened... ran great for 30 seconds and loaded up and puffed black smoke out and stalled :anonymous: So what I’m trying to say is I need to find some micro bits!! Point me in a direction plz... also maybe a micro file? I almost bet if I could of found one size smaller bit that I could of probably saved that carb..... I like tinkering when I have time....

Also air leaks may do this.makes engines run lean and hot... so maybe a new carb and gaskets will fix this... good luck... alittle time and effort will go a long way and don’t forget patience... you’ll get it

    Something like this would work.

They have some with a handle included. That’s probably better for carb work anyways.

They do good if you can get them started, the end is usually blunt, unlike the flutes on a drill bit.

The tiny drill bit holder is called a pin vice.
