You would probably be better off to find a used one, be cheaper

Went out to mow, saw this on the garage door  usually I'm a live and let live guy but :censored: this thing was huge.
I flattered it with a shovel.
    KIMG1672.jpg

Now mowin' along, singin' a song and got too close to a (giant it turned out) rock by the road...:mad:

And did this... Spun the left blade right off the deck, had to go searching to find it.
The spindle housings are $90 by the way.
At least it didn't destroy the $50 belt for the third time this season...
    KIMG1673.jpg

Messicks better :censored: send me a Christmas card this year...:annoyed:

Maybe... Take like 20% original MSRP for a 15 year old mower...

Nice to have a tractor with climate change and the storms we are getting. You southern guys be safe, I take the snow and cold over your warm weather and hurricanes.

Blade put a good cut in the deck and I assume the rock punched the hole.

Moving right along, a bee just stung the back of my neck...
    KIMG1677.jpg

...and I just filled the gas tank before I started, when I lifted the front of the tractor up ...

    That's not bad.

Just a little sticker shocked. A dollar doesn't go as far as it used to that's for sure.

Definitely exaggerated. There are so many options and variables it is quite overwhelming.

I don't know where to start as far as determining how much tractor I need and how much tractor will fit in my wallet.

Depends what it’s used for. I just went to a dealer and told them what I need to do and they narrowed it down. I then made the final selection between the 2 or 3 models/lines they suggested. After that I went around and found competitive models from other makes and priced them out and compared

I paid $2700 for my x500. It's a 2008 that had 500 hours and looks like it was very gently used. The equivalent new machine (x570) stickers for $6800.

I was capping myself at $3000 so my choice was either get a used entry level garden tractor or a new Husqvarna 200 series. I'm glad I got the bigger machine.

I'm also happy it isn't brand new and shiny in a way. I've definitely hurt some of the mowing deck paint since I got it and that would stress me out if it was flawless when I got it.

I like smaller decks, for whatever it's worth. I only mow around a half acre, but what I do have is mostly difficult terrain so I find the smaller decks scalp less and fit into tighter areas. 48" is about the maximum I'd want for the area I have to deal with now.

"how much tractor will fit in my wallet":rofl::rofl: Great line!

Buy more than you think you need.

Folks almost never say "I wish I got the smaller, lighter duty model" -- like garages, ever hear anyone say "I wish I didn't have so much room"?

So true. I remember talking with my architect when he was designing my home...

Architect - "How big do you want the garage to be?"
Me - "Well I've never heard anyone say that their garage is too small so make it as big as you can"

Needless to say I have a massive garage and it is awesome.

    Very helpful. Thank you.

I also have some pretty rough areas and I wouldn't want to take an expensive machine through and tear up the paint and deck. I have a 42" right now. I was considering 48" max for maneuverability.

Where do y'all typically find your gently used equipment?

I might just have to do this. Seeing something in person versus looking online makes a big difference. A L2501 looked teeny in the pictures but it's really not.

First I need to determine my needs. What is practical and what is wishful.

Oh no! That was a dark fishing spider. Harmless to us. They kill their prey by crushing them. Not venomous. They are the good guys taking care of roaches and other pests.

    Sorry about the rock fiasco.
