One corner was bent so I got out the big pipe wrench and got it back sorta straight.

This doesn’t scratch the surface of the stuff at this place but I took these standing at my truck waiting on them to get it with their loader. 98% of their stuff is used, 60% of it is junk.

I couldn’t get the guy down on the price but I got him to throw this muffler in for a Farmall Cub, I know some Cub people so it should be an easy sell and I can recoup a little money to make me feel better :D

This little 318 continues to impress me. 7” of wet, heavy snow and it knocked it right out. Every time I start thinking about a bigger tractor, I do a job with it that reminds me how well it serves me.

"98% of their stuff is used, 60% of it is junk." -- The 60% is what I would end up buying -- I have a whole garage of 60%... :anonymous:

The 60% is down from about 80% a few years ago there

I think high scrap prices helped with their inventory.

I went and picked the M9540 up today. It was a 577.5 mile round trip, the Duramax did great. It was able to hold 6th gear with cruise control on at 65-70 MPH on most hills coming back through Tennessee, it dipped to 4th gear a handful of times the whole way back. These L5P Duramax engines are stout, I’d like to get behind the wheel of a 2020 with the 10 speed and see how they compare. A guy I know traded his 19 on a 20 and said the 2020 will run circles around his 2019 that he traded.

Nice rig you have. I’ve been toying with putting a flat bed on my Duramax.

What does that tractor weigh you reckon?

Anybody use the app “my shed” ? I have it for Case/IH and also for New Holland/Ford.

I just went to look up something and both are longer being supported. It says they’ll update soon though.

It’s nice to look up parts and order them online or call the dealer and see if they have it in stock.

I’ve been trying to find some info on the rear blade I picked up yesterday and came across this one and it has feet/skids on the back. I may have to make some to scrape snow off of our driveway so I don’t put a lot of gravel in the yard.

All of the modern diesels are just nuts. Personally, I wish that somebody would bring back a 'light duty' diesel for the 2500 series trucks, something in the 500-600 ft/lbs range that doesn't weigh as much as a Civic. I'd love a diesel for the extra bottom-end grunt over a gasser, but I don't need 1000 torques or 700hp for what I'm allowed to tow with my non-CDL driver's license. Especially if you're hooking it up to a modern 8 or 10 speed tranny.

I noticed on his trip he averaged 8.5 mpg too, I get it, heavy load and hills, and if your gonna work the horses you have to feed them.

On the other hand, my ‘03 Duramax has no emissions on it, I get 16-18 around town, and 12 while towing the gooseneck with tractor or our camper weighing around 10k. It’s rated 225hp/500 ft. Lb.

The LBZ I used to tow with never seemed to do better than 11-12 towing the Tacoma on a car hauler or my 17’ 7k lb enclosed trailer. Same with the 7.3 too. Not a ton of weight but a bunch of aero drag.

    Yep.
My cousin towed livestock for a living when I was younger, and had a couple of Cummins diesels that he did it with. He had a 24v 5.9l 4x4 that used to average 18 empty and around 12 loaded, and he had a ?'91? 12v 2wd (with the old-style injector pump that you could adjust the pressures with a screwdriver). He had two positions marked on it, a 'power' and an 'economy' and he'd switch it to 'power' when he had a load, and then drop it back to 'economy' for 20+ mpg's when he was running empty.

My dad had a 12 valve Cummins, it got great mileage and had plenty of power. The 12 valves were honestly one of the best diesels ever built.

Yeah, I have very seriously considered getting an older diesel truck from the southwest, something without the body cancer you get around here. They're $$$, but if you take care of them they last forever. The trick would be justifying to myself buying something that expensive, that was that old, just for towing purposes

I think 12v’s get looked back at with rose colored glasses. They are an insanely strong engine platform but stock they kinda sucked as a usable truck. Towing 8k lbs+ required you to just live with your foot glued to the floor and on the governor spring. XJ front suspension components didn’t hold up
as well as Chrysler hoped on the 4wd’s. The 727 or 47rh/re couldn’t make enough line pressure from the pump with the low rpm range to hold together. The NV4500 has really wide gear ratio spreads too if you went manual. I appreciate them, love what they are capable of, and what they meant at the time, but any modern gasser will run circles around a 12v and be more reliable too without 35 year old Chrysler electronics on the body side.

They definitely had trans problems. Dads came out at 100k. Second gear came out and the overdrive housing busted.

They all have their quirks, just have to fix them and go on I reckon.

Mike (cousin) had the NV4500 in his 4x4, and with the 4.10's it was capable of pulling well above what it was rated for. But highway driving was a 60mph affair until he installed a Gear Vendors overdrive unit.
