The trailer is less upkeep than a dump truck, cheaper like Kirk said, insurance is way cheaper on the trailer, etc. I vote another trailer

Before I do any oily or greasy work I pull the tractor in on a tarp. I have a small green one I keep folded up just for this. Makes cleanup a cinch and no oil stains on the concrete to deal with.

Agree, you can also drop the trailer loaded and use the truck as is.

Next trailer, get one that you can remove the entire hitch assembly so the thieves have nothing to hook on to.

You all make great points and I really appreciate your insight. For what it's worth, we are talking about a one tone dump truck, not a full on Peterbilt dump truck. Still though, a trailer will be much cheaper.

Let us know the price difference between the first one and now. I bet it’s close to twice as much.

I just curious what tags are per year for the wonton truck?

Here in Michigan, trailer tags are a 1 time purchase. Lifetime plates are awesome!

I'll add this, place several airpods on the new trailer in several places so you can track it if stolen.

I have multi year tags on 3 trailers, it was supposed to be a one time fee for life (about $90-$100). Non transferable tags so if you sell one they are null and void.

I got a letter recently, they are going to start charging tax on them this year :annoyed:

Been expecting Michigan to revert back to annuals for years.

I figure my trail plate has been on over 300 different trailer in the last 25 years. Shhh. I didn't type that.

A one ton truck will probably have quite a bit less load capacity than the dump trailer.

Going to bet there would be a lawsuit over that. Easier to change the law, charge yearly on new plates for purchases and grandfather all the ''lifetime'' plates until the trailer is sold.

Here we can get a 1 year or 5 year reg, no break in the rate just a convenience.

Before they offered the 5 year it seemed every time I really needed the trailer the reg was out of date. :frusty:

I originally bought it to change the oil on my VW GTI as the filter was topside...

It was super handy for that and my co-workers VW. After I sold it I was trying to figure out if I'd ever use it again. Shoot, I've used it on all the mowers, extracting power steering fluid out of reservoirs, etc. I need to make a holder with a drip doohickey for the tubes so they stop dripping where they shouldn't...

Me, too. I lost my extractor hose for a year.

Hung it on the fence to fully drain and forgot that's where I left it.

    It was fully drained.
