    Thank you!

And wouldn't have expected them to support something 12 years old.

Just picked this tractor up as a non-starter, after draining the 1.5 gallons of milky opaque gas out of it cleaning the carb, oil change, filter change, air filter change, spark plug and a good cleaning (and wrestling with figuring out I put the main jet in backwards for 2+ hours holding down the fuel cutoff solenoid plunger after the carb spray blew it out of the bottom of the float body) it fired right off and mowed plenty good for me but wanted to do my diligence in maintaining it.

I figure even if it has low hours and isn't leaking at 12ish years the fluid is probably acidic and done.

Seriously though the "gas" in it looked like this:
    SQUARE-Beer4AllSeasons91.jpg

    And smelled like naptha.

Sounds like you scored a good one.
Nice looking unit too, been stored indoors.

I called them about a Craftsman from the early 90's and the gentleman was glad to help me.
Also their well designed products haven't changed much over the years so that makes it easier.

I also would rather invest a few dollars and a few hours servicing than wonder, those transaxles are very long lived with just a bit of care.

    I think so!

$400 all in which includes buying it, the tune up parts and fluids and even the gas to go pick it up.

Guy had two for sale one was a smaller 16hp newish model that I was actually there to look at but it was in worse shape and I liked the 21hp Briggs and Stratton "full pressure lubrication system" engine over the oil splash sump of the smaller one.

Could definitely stand to have some new blades put on. Right now it has two different push mower blades rather than riding mower blades, don't know how big an impact that really has though looking at pictures the riding mower blades are flatter and don't have the "lifting tips" at the blade ends.

Given my yard had gotten away from me as I only had a 21" 5hp push mower for a while and my leg doesn't like letting me push mow an acre (which already isn't fun to begin with) I just took a flap wheel to them in my vice knowing they'ed get chewed up mowing 3' bahia grass and even some small brush.

(Seriously it really had gotten away from me.)

    PXL_20220617_113214869~2.jpg

That wasn't even the worst of it. :anonymous:

Blades are now once again about as sharp as any other 1/4" flat bar I own but I know it's worth putting new ones on now at least and they won't be abused now that I can regularly maintain the growth.

Gotta say, when a lawn gets away from you - it gets away.

Most of the lawns I mow are in town, I would be getting an official notice long before I got to that point.

I have a Swisher walk behind trimmer for jobs like that -- a 5HP motor with a heavy string trimmer head, man will it knock stuff down. (flowers too...:anonymous:)
My only issue with it is like every other Briggs rope start engine I have ever had, it is a bear to get restarted when hot.

For those that haven't seen it, I have a bad left shoulder and last week spraying I thought "this would be nice if it had an electric pump on it". $23 pump. $18.95 battery and it's electric!

Went to the county fair last night and they had an antique tractor display. No kubotas, so I didn't stay long.

Is that just the shaft? Or whole assembly?

Lots of nice looking iron there. :militarypress:

That squatty little red (rust) tractor in the middle is a Wheel Horse, the style is often referred to as a "ball burner tractor" for obvious reasons.
Not a WH exclusive, many manufacturers of the era made similar ones.

I had a Porter Cable BB similar to the one below, not as shiny naturally. A friend talked me out of it, I'm sure he made a good profit, he always does...

That fellow could sell a Frigidaire to an Eskimo and get him to take the extended warranty too.

I think they were referring to the whole assembly, but I'd be happy if they could provide either. I sent them both part numbers.

On another note, my initial temporary repair failed on the second lap of the yard. I went back to the garage and added two more washers to the stack for a total of 4 on the spindle and retightened the nut. That repair managed to last for the rest of the yard. I think I'm going to add some red Loctite to it before I mow again. It has been relatively dry here, so I will probably be able to hold off cutting for another week or 10 days.

I have never had much luck getting the blade to stay tight after a spin.
Next time you have it apart you might try comparing the blade hole to a new blesade, sometimes in addition to the shaft damage the blade hole is damaged too.

My Cub Cadet ZT has a star shape on the spindle and blade, I have bent about 2 dozen blades (yes, I'm serious) but never had one spin.

That ball burner was my favorite lol. As soon as I saw it I said to myself that might be fun for about a minute, then horribly uncomfortable.

If you can't find one, when mowing season ends take that shaft out and send it to me. I may be able to weld it back up, turn it to the right size and rethread it for you.

Those hooks I welded on work great. May weld one on each lift arm so I can do the same on the back. These new binders are awesome as well.

I bought a 4 pack of hooks and plan to put two on my bucket and two on the forks. I might have to alter my plan and put some on my tractor like that.
