I don't know anywhere to get anything but ultra-low sulfur diesel anymore.

Unless I'm wrong ( very well could be), mostly all you can get is ULSD especially at the regular pumps.
Now I do get off road diesel.

And off road diesel is just dyed ULSD for tax purposes. You aren’t hurting anything in a small machine that will effect you in any real capacity unless you’re a daily heavy user. Additives you put in the fuel can bring back stability and lubricity.
I use a quarter bottle of Seafoam in the 6gal tank usually 2 times a season, and change fuel filter the beginning of every season. No issues, no hard starts. Average 55 hrs a year on my pile. B2400 Kubota 1997 model, 1500 hrs on the clock.

This is what I'm talking about but I also add Hows for winter.

We demo'd a stand by generator for a chemical plant 2 years ago.

It was a big v-8 Detroit Diesel.

The base had a fuel storage tank built in it.

The last time it ran was in 1996.

The unit had 680 hrs on it.

No one is sure if it was high sulphur fuel or not, but we are still burning that fuel.

It was a shame to cut up that machine for scrap metal. Nothing leaves a chem plant in a usable form, no matter how much money was pissed away.

If the tank was last filled in the 90s it was almost certainly hi sulfur diesel. Off-road didn’t move to low sulfur until ’07 and has been ultra low sulfur since ’10 whereas on-road has been ULSD since ‘06.

I’ve started using Howes diesel treatment to help with the issues of ULSD.

We have noticed that it grows algae. Tossing in an algaecide, swapping filters and it is running fine in the skid steers

In about 2010 I got a drum of fuel oil that had been sitting outside since 1975, it was an odd amber color but smelled normal. I burned it in a torpedo heater, worked perfectly.

Well, Diesel is made of old dinosaurs. I think Howes is supposed to help with the algae growth. It can become a real problem if it gets into your fuel lines. I've had more issues with water, I think, due to the hi humidity mixed with temperature changes.

couple years ago I was at scrap yard working on a lift, 20 cyl MTU generator in its entirety sitting there, big as a house. Heads 7 and 8 are removed, peak into the cavern, and connecting rod spaghetti….ain’t no bringing that back
Scrap yard tried to market for parts before it got broken down, it met the torch, all of it. I can’t even imagine the cost to replace that.

Everything is considered contaminated, even if it was never used. It’s amazing what you can see in the metal dumpsters at work.

Then after struggling all day to half ass a road grade, my neighbor (her family owns a big farm around here but she never helps with anything for the common road) has a worker show up with a perfect kubota with grader for her back yard….. :annoyed:

Kioti wasn’t a known brand when I bought my Kubota, since then there is the southeastern distribution center 8 miles from me, been there several times, finally got to operate a CX25HST w/loader a friend bought.
Loader lift height is much higher than my Kubota LA352/B2400, BUT loader joy stick is buried behind my right knee, knees are in the dash, operating the stick gets frustrating fighting knee/leg room.

Kubota loader stick is forward on side of dash, easy to reach and not in way of movement.

other than my fat 6’4” ass not fitting well, I found it to be a pretty nice machine. The guy that bought it, is 6’5” and as big as me, he loves it. His biggest complaint is burning his right heel on the trans filter sticking into the floor area, I mentioned that wearing Crocs while operating probably wasn’t a design consideration…..nor was his size 16 gorilla feet…..
