When it did start to try and turn over, was it very labored and slow despite a good battery? If I recall correctly those are notorious for breaking the compression release and makes it hard to start. I had a 13.5hp with the same issue. I just put a bigger battery on it  Good luck finding an OEM camshaft for that one right now. Last I heard a couple months ago they were back ordered till the end of November. Also could be some very out of spec rocker arms.

It wouldn't start again, as in- turn the key, hear a "click" but no crank. A quick voltage test with the VOM shows 12V at the hot side of the solenoid, 12V on the "start" side when the key is twisted, 12V at the hot lug on the starter when the key is twisted. Same result when I had jumper cables on it from the White lawn tractor, so either the battery has no amperage left in it, or the starter is toast. I didn't try swapping batteries, I will try that before taking off the starter and opening it up to get some bad new$.

Yeah, kinda. I didn't know it had a compression release. I really think it's the starter because it had been just clicking when the key turned. Then started an electrical whine.

Just about every small engine has a compression release. When you replace the starter, make sure you have a good charged battery. Monitor how it starts. Don't want to per-maturely burn out that new one.

I like my Hustler, I'd like to find another one like it. I have most of the vacuum system for another one.

I'm re ringing this CH25. Burning oil and fouling out plugs after an hour or so.

Kinda shame, runs so good until it fouls out the plug. Hated taking it apart.

1.5 hrs to take apart. 6 hrs to clean everything proper.PXL_20221018_145729621.jpg PXL_20221018_162318990.jpg PXL_20221018_162339205.jpg

We’re those bad about head gaskets or was that a different model?

The factory head gaskets were shit. The Kohler replacement gaskets are much more beefy.

I do seem to have to replace a lot of these, but everyone was pretty choked off with debris plugging the fins. I just blame them going bad on not being able to cool themselves.

If it runs and drives well and has been kept inside I would jump on that. The Raptor is the 3ed model up in Hustlers line, retail on that was probably about $4K when new.

If it needs deck bearings that is less than $50, just about everything you buy used will need new blades.

If I was buying today I would get a Hustler, there are 3 dealers within 25 miles of me.

I was working on convincing myself to buy a $9000 Wright then got distracted and bought the truck instead. :notsure:
