Did you add the bar to the auger? Do you hang a person off it?

I need to do something like this on my auger. With no down force on the 3pt, it won't bite in anything hard, even with a new blade.

Be careful around them, I twisted my best friend up in one once as he was applying pressure. His shirt got grabbed and luckily when he screamed I turned the tractor off. Had to cut him out with my knife. 2 more seconds and he wouldn’t have been so lucky to walk away. I remember it like it was yesterday and it was 20+ years ago.

Yeah, that sounds horrifying! I've seen more than one guy go for a ride on a core driller that got bound up. Slightly more funny than deadly though.

I have a whole lot of barbell weights that I was thinking I could put on a bar welded to the auger. I could easily add more than a person would weigh. 1- so I don't kill any friends, and 2- so I don't need any friends to dig a hole.

At my old job we ran a big drain cleaner, the type with a rotating drum and a heavy cable fed into the drain. The cable can loop right at the point where it is being fed into the drain -- it will grab you. Although the operator has a foot pedal switch this was always a two man job, one to feed the cable and one to stand by with his hand on the electric plug. Fortunately I was not one of the plumbers so I didn't have to run it much, never trusted it when I did.

I was going to say, there's no way you were going to move the kind of yardage you were talking about in 3 trips with that trailer, lol. People tend to underestimate just how much a yard actually is; even my 7x12 14k dump trailer would take more than 2 trips to move that sort of volume (and weight!)
Glad you opted to play it safe(r)

That PHD came with the bar, and yes I use a second person's weight for additional leverage to help dig a bit deeper. I will get a better picture here in a few minutes, as I'm still doing fence work.

When not hooked up to the tractor, not in use, loosen set screw and flip the bar to the other side with the driveshaft and pickup points.

    20210201_090223.jpg

The bar is slightly less than 6' in length, plastic bag is a reminder of headache potential, the bar really helps when tractor is on uneven ground, a second hand can pivot the auger for a better vertical/straight hole.

Yeah, but hadn't had any issues, pto only runs at idle for maybe 8 seconds for a 36-40" hole, and done, sandy soil here.

Next time I put it back on, I'll try and move it to the next hole up on the top yellow bar.

You are right. I overestimated what was left. I plugged in the numbers on a yardage calculator and came up with 11 yards total. We hauled all of it in (dang, I've forgotten how many at this point. 3 loads Friday night but I don't remember how many other ones). The first load was a doozy. That trailer was heaped up and waaaay overloaded.

Car lot is in bad shape with 30”s of snow. Sidewalks have street snow on them and about impossible to open. Talked with brother joe and he says grab my bota with the snowblower. So I worked in the morning and then headed to joes to grab the bota as my manger was thankful for helping out. Yes we hire a snow crew BUT sometimes it just isn’t enough especially when snow storm hits in the beginning of a work week.... being closed means no income. 3-7:30 I was at it. Was asked if we could do the same tomorrow... ok then

I'd say that you guys could hire out for some shovelers, but they'd probably end up shooting each other.

Customer just came by with this. I ask what are you doing with the ole 8N? He said scrap yard, have had it listed for 3 weeks and no bites for parts. Said he got what he needed off of it and it had a hole in the block. Trans/axle were good though. I could have bought it cheap but don’t need it.
