Yeah my tach runs directly from the engine block so I don’t have to worry about that.

Funny thing is when I’m running those round bales...suddenly I have power steering! It’s like magic.

I finally dug into the mini skid steer I posted a pic of earlier in the thread. Pulled the bowl off the carb because it leaks. Has fine sediment in the bottom, quite a bit. Most ran out with the gas that was left in the bowl.

So I pulled the small brass screen/sediment bowl off the bottom of the tank. PLUGGED! Only one thing left to do, so I pulled the tank. It sounded like a maraca when I rocked it back and forth after removing it. More sediment than I’ve ever seen. It’s BAD.

I pulled the carb, too. Just to be safe. Borrowing my buddy’s ultrasonic cleaner. Maybe it’ll work some magic on the jets.

I’ll fill it with thinner and a bunch of nuts and bolts and shake it up until the thinner comes back out clear. Gonna take a lot, I’m sure. For now, I’ve got a small auxiliary tank I can use for testing once the carb is back together.

moved the chickens today. All summer we keep them rotating and moving to fresh pasture but winter they stay put, but things are just so muddy their spot that was supposed to last all season is done for, time to move and we had the nice day to do it.

truck helped move some of their stuff too.

I need to get my Kubota out this weekend and dig a trench to lay some roof drains in. Also need to widen some trails around our property before springtime.

Yeesh. You may want to consider having that tank sealed, unless the PO was just filling the tank from a REALLY old rusty can.

I was thinking the same thing. They make kits to seal metal tanks. I've seen them used with mixed results on old ATVs and ATCs though.

Red Kote and KBS are both spoken of very highly on my Sweptline forums, and the POR-15 kit seems to generally be the go-to for a more budget-friendly sealant.

I was thinking it might need to be sealed. I'll judge that once I get all the crap out. If it's heavily pitted inside and scaly, it'll either get coated or I'll adapt another tank onto it.

I've seen 'em. They get mixed reviews. Probably depends on tank cleanliness and proper application.

I've heard of the Red Kote and the POR 15, never heard of the KBS though. I'll check it out if the need arises.

What's crazy, is the guy I got this from was using it just last year with no issues. He's also a good mechanic. It almost makes me wonder if he pissed someone off (lol) and they dumped crap in the tank. He's a good friend of mine, but doesn't take crap from anyone. I know he's had a few run-ins with neighbors. Who knows...

I'm going to try to grab a new length of fuel hose for it this weekend and replace the two small hoses, really clean out the carb, and start on the fuel tank. Should be fun!

Edit: the outside of the tank is in decent shape, so I'm hoping it's just sediment from a crappy fill can or something like that.

Let’s talk tractors and road/driveway maintenance.

My driveway is around 275’, 7* grade, and I plan to put in a roundabout and cut in a road to the back yard as well. Total, maybe 1/4 mile worth of driveway to maintain.

    I do have a 7’ blade.

So the question is about getting a box scraper. Is it totally necessary? I’m pretty decent with the blade, just never used a box scraper and heard it was life changing.

Road grader would be better for maintaining the road. Been using one for years. Something like this. There are many brands out there.

They make short work of it. I have a box blade also and it has its place when needed.

To build the roads, I assume the box blade would be your “go to” for this job.

Probably so if it’s all in the rough or a small dozer with a six way blade.

Anyone use old tires tied together and rock for base? Seen this method on YouTube and looked pretty cool. I can get as many used tires as needed.

I’m hoping to spring for a box blade myself. Been using a back blade to build ‘roads’ on the farm using a basically unlimited supply of free wood chips, and I can see how a box blade would be a much better tool for the job. Gotta save those pennies.
