Good to see a young 'un working, but please, start them out right! PPE! A chainsaw operator needs at the least hearing and eye protection. Ever seen what a chain can do to a thigh? There's probably safety pants made in his size. Crippling injuries stay with you ...that's why they're called crippling.

Honda. If you're doing straight lines and steep hills, go with track drive. Tight turns, corners, confined areas, go wheeled.

Not a system but a so called improvement. (hack)
Folks would get an 8 volt battery and set the 6 volt regulator up as far as it would go. It didn't fully charge the 8 volt battery but I guess a mostly charged 8 volt battery can out crank a fully charged 6 volt in cold weather.

MTD parts are easy to get and not too expensive. Not as nice as Honda/Toro/Areins however.

X 2 on the Honda recommendation. I got an HS928 (or something like that) 15 years ago. Track drive. The thing’s been bulletproof up here in the White Mountains of NH.

Looks like the new ones are about a grand more than I paid but it looks pretty slick. Integrated light, hand mechanism to raise and lower the angle instead of the foot operated, step-down-pull-up bar method.

Good luck with your search, definitely check for rust .

I want a Honda but I don’t think I want to spend 2700.00 for a new one. Found one similar to @PzTank for 1300 on Craigslist…. Not tracked. I may take a look. Thank you for the reply’s

You don't want a tracked Honda. I have one. It sucks to move when not running.

Seems a tracked machine would need to be stored in a heated area so any snow could melt out of the tracks.

I agree with everything you said, this was his first time cutting with a chainsaw, I let him cut 3 small limbs to get a taste. I will get him some PPE for use when he gets a little older and uses it more

I almost sawed into my thigh a few years ago, thank goodness for the Carhartt pants I was wearing that day.

That wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve done today but I had no other choice :D

We have a no name (probably some brand that MTD builds blowers for) old, found behind a dumpster track drive blower that I use on our pathways and parking pad out in Calgary. Lives outside under a pine tree. No problems. Runs and drives all winter long. Some are longer than others.

I never noticed this being an issue.

My house garage is insulated but not heated beyond warm vehicles being parked.

Any snow on the blower just gets dusted off with a window brush, then the blower is parked.

I think knowing what I know now, Id choose that one over my tracked version.
