Just catching up on this thread. You all have been more busy than a three peckard billy goat. (As usual).

We have been busy as well. Mowed a couple empty commercial 1/2 acre lots for 80.00 each. Easy money.

Been setting some boulders in my rock wall with this Bobcat E55. Nice machine!

    B5F8055B-52A4-4046-8588-5D832E12632E.jpg

Hauled some materials for my neighbor. Glad the yard has a scale. Their estimates on weight were a bit off. I had them take material off until around 18k.

    35BE4EA1-4F7F-4DBA-9105-CC7CC4169DE3.jpg

Been working on the rear covered patio project. This has been the bane of my existence. Can’t wait until this is finished.
Footer in and now stem walls. Then electrical/gas plumbing and pour the pillars and slab.

    Then I noticed this…..

    A4D2F5A1-C49C-4F4F-B7BB-64A8DEF48242.jpg

I am no longer allowing anyone to use my equipment. People just don’t give a crap. Now I have to repair this. I’m sure this cross sectional bar isn’t real strong, but once I get into it I can see what is needed to be done.

I can cut this section out all but 1-1.5” on each end and sleeve with a bigger and thicker DOM tube, weld in place. Only concern is this piece goes through the loader arms. I may have to torch it out and replace. That is a lot more involved. I’m almost ready to do an insurance claim.

On my free time been rebuilding my crawler (back half, cage, re-valving shocks, etc).

So I cut it down pretty good….E5A8BFF7-AE4F-41D6-9B71-03D7064CE38D.jpg

That tube is engineered to bend, (think of it as a fuse) meant to bend before bending or damaging the lift arms/cylinders, do not replace with heavy guage material.....

Kubota service will just bend it back, but this is the second time for this MX5200, so I paid $250 insurance claim to have a new QA put on, I will be able to keep the old QA for back up.

    20210530_134528.jpg

Wood stabs push those QA arms, next thing you know your losing a 2K pound load and it bends it.
My brother has done this twice, I now put 160lb tie wraps on the arms.

It's possible they put a strap or chain and used it incorrectly as well.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's written in the Farmers Bible, loaning your tractor out is like giving permission for some random dude to bang your wife. Something along those lines... anyways, the moral of the story, don't lend it out, period.

Neighbor across the street came over last year and said "I need to borrow your tractor and bushhog" caught me off guard, I got a little attitude and said "the only way you can borrow it is with me sitting in the seat for $75 an hour". Haven't heard any more about it :D

I learned years ago to not loan out tools. It cost me each time to fix them, and they were tools I used to make a living. Never ever ever again.

My neighbor borrowed my x500 to mow his field because he was waiting on a part for his machine. He brought it back clean and with a full tank of gas, but the next morning I noticed a tire went flat over night. I found a tiny pinprick of a hole at the edge of a tread and plugged it. I used it earlier that day, so it might have even been something I ran over. Even still, I get the feeling it wasn't me and can't help but wonder if it would have been fine had he not borrowed it.

I was recently burned good by a co-worker I let borrow my GT loader tractor. Probably ended up costing me $600 in damages to help him for free. He ended up quitting his job and left his "friend's" 16ft trailer at my house for 9 months and wouldn't pick it up. I ended up hauling it to his house and dropping it in his driveway unannounced.

I am done, done, done with ever loaning anything again.

ETA: He'd tell me. "I'm gonna pick that trailer up this weekend" Never showed. After weeks of this I had already told him I didn't need to be there, send me a text and just come get it. I thought about the poor guy he borrowed it from missing his trailer for the better part of a year. Sorry POS

I learned a long time ago to always pay if I need something done, that way I’m not expected to do any favors that are going to cost you a lot more.

Guess I've had better luck with neighbors and friends borrowing tools. Neighbor has borrowed some hand tools over the years, in the same shape I gave them to him. I work an odd schedule so they're always sitting on the chair on my back porch. I've borrowed a shovel or other tool from him before and was rinsed of/cleaned before I gave it back, so I guess that's got alot to do with it.

One of my other friend (pretty much only friend really) can borrow whatever they want. At this point I do wind up doing most of the work anyways.

Couple co-workers have used my garage and air tools to complete car repairs. But alot of those cases were a training session.

I'm too trusting of a person, I know it'll eventually bite me in the ass...

One Sunday a couple years ago a couple motorcycles were in our store parking lot, we’re closed on Sundays. I walked over to see what was going on, guy lost a couple screws holding his exhaust pipe clamp.

I went out to my building and found one, he needed two. I brought the one, a Craftsman ratchet, extension, and socket. He put it on and ask where he could get another bolt.

There’s a TSC 3 miles away, he ask could he borrow the ratchet, etc and he’d bring it right back. I let him and told him to just lay it in the back of my truck when he brought it back.

I came out the next morning, no ratchet, etc.

3 days later I looked in there and he not only brought back what I let him borrow but he left a wobble he had to buy :D

I have a very select group of friends that can borrow/have anything I have. They also have my help whenever needed. It's reciprocated and we've saved each other thousands over the years. No need to keep track of anything.

My old man loaned out his Cat 304 excavator with an enclosed cab once and it was returned with the top of the cab smashed in.

A couple years after that he loaned his Cat 259 skid steer to a buddy and the dude rolled it.

Needless to say he learned his lesson.

Years ago (decades ago) I scraped together my pennies and sent a money order off to JC Whitney for a paint gun. An acquaintance at work overheard a conversation and asked to borrow it, he assured me he knew all about paint guns.

So brand new he borrows it, paints his race car and says how good it worked. I looked in the box and it was spotless.
Months later I go to use it and discover he had way over torqued the air fitting and turned it into an egg...
And by then he had got fired at work. :censored:
