Once I learned how to do it, it worked great.

On the side of the road with a triple axle gooseneck and no air, it didn't work too good

    I have a Scotts S1642 that I've been fighting for a while.

I was having to jump it off every time it sat for a week and last year I replaced the battery and starter solenoid. The battery kept up for a while but this year I am having to jump it every time again. Now, when I am mowing, if I turn it off, it'll start back up. That tells me the battery is charging but I have a parasitic drain somewhere when it sits between mowings. I don't keep a trickle charger on it.

Where to start as far as finding the drain?

Also, I'm considering purchasing a new mower. Budget around $2500 max. What sort of features should I be looking for that make the most difference?

I have 1.5 acres with a lot of it being fairly rough. I border woods on three sides and have lots of trees/roots and the ground is not very smooth. I am hesitant to even buy a new mower for that reason as I don't want to tear it up when I have this old thing to bounce around on. I'm not afraid to push the Scotts through tall grass and weeds and knock light brush back off the yard edge but I wouldn't want to put a new mower through that.

Have you actually put a voltage meter on the battery while running? It may be only putting out voltage intermittently.

If it has headlights, unplug them. The lights are fed off the key switch for most mowers. It is a common place for electrical issues to happen.

Headlights have been disconnected as well as seat and reverse shutoffs. I haven't measured the charging output.

I'm going to go through it really well and make sure there aren't any shorts/grounds. Something chewed through a fuel line a few years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if they like the taste of wire insulation too...

Sounds like a switch problem, one the clutch pedal, one on the blade engagement lever / or switch if electric clutch, or ignition switch as well.

There was no way of getting any starting fluid inside the tire due to the extreme cup it had. The problem was that the tire was flat as a dish when on the rim with no way of popping it out. I deflated the tube and broke one bead gently tonight and pulled the tube out, pulled in a stem. I always air without a core. I did tire work in truck shops for years.

It popped back into a dish but the bead was on the back of the rim so tight I was able to push the rim down and the dish came out and the bead seated. I'll follow the same procedure on the other. Could have sent them back but I'm stubborn.

This was a "you will NOT break me."
moment. Must say I was almost ready to throw in the towel when I had 60psi in the tube and the beads had not yet seated though. I was inflating with a rubber tipped blow gun.

Deflated and bumped it around then tried again. Beads were well lubed with cooking spray. I don't figure anyone but me would ever get these inflated at home. IDK if tire shops deal with this regularly or not.

Went and bought a thing today from a guy up between Eau Claire and Minneapolis. Ford 9N that has a Sherman hi-lo range with the loader, finish mower, snow blade, clamp on forks

It sure is! It’s the ole GT500. He’s moving next weekend and shipping it was going to cost as much as the tractor. Super cool guy to meet and talk to. He was actually out using it to cut the grass for the last time when I pulled up

Does it have power steering? If not, that's the only drawback to a loader on the old Fords.

No power steering but not planning on super heavy loader work so hopefully it’ll work well for me. Driveway maintenance/moving skids around/tree work/shuffling trailers type of stuff

Did a temporary fix on a set of magnetic lights, so I could bring this farm trailer home to work on it. 5 new shoes on order and new jack stand, and it needs all new wiring.

Anyone have a stihl fs91r string trimmer? I got mine about a year ago brand new and ever since it was new it randomly Boggs down. I have a buddy with the same one and it acts the same way. I removed the spark arrestor and it didn’t seem to help. It Boggs even after using it for a while and getting it good and hot. Advice?
