I've always been told that the only difference is the dye and taxes. I don't know if that information is true or if it's regional.

 

I don’t know of any kind of paint that would hold up for long under a deck. Some may last longer but it won’t be that long.

Nothing can take that environment for long. Some paint it with used motor oil. I don't worry about mine.

 

What about the fork grapple best of both , love my pallet forks

 

I want to add a grapple to my forks, it’s on my to do list before I die.

 

Picked up my JD x584 yesterday after three months of waiting. Put it straight to work.

Great tractor so far. Glad to finally get the grass cut.

Still waiting on the trailer.

Bought a snowblower for it too. Looking forward to that but also hoping it will be a while before it's needed.

He used to bail hay for summer work (teacher).

We’ve consistently used it over its 44 years- rototill gardens, auger fence posts, pull engines, pull stuck cars out of the mud, move building materials, plow snowed in driveways. We were pretty much the neighborhood heavy movers.

This is as much a tribute to my dad as anything.

He passed away this May 15 at 80 years old. I helped him in and out of his wheelchair, on and off the toilet, showered him for the last year and a half of his life. I watched him fall or had to pick him up off the floor more times than I care to count, have fingers, toes and have his right leg below the knee amputated and deteriorate away from kidney failure and diabetes.

He was a self-taught genius. He rebuilt his first engine at 19, a 56 Chevy, with my mom sitting on the fender holding the flashlight. He helped build and maintained 5 acres (I know that’s not a lot by some standards) and taught himself carpentry, stick welding and oxy-ace, equipment maintenance, how to keep horses, and yes, he taught himself everything about that tractor and how to make it work for him and make the family money.

I learned to drive when I was 14, became a carpenter at 18 and didn’t take off my bags until a few years ago, replaced my first transmission and engine at 19 (fucking pos Jeep), taught myself to weld and fabricate out of metal, all because my youngest memories of my dad were him working in the garage or out in the field. I miss him.

Sadly the tractor is now in disrepair. His last years on his feet he lost most of his mobility and dexterity. The tractor and the land were neglected over the past few years as a result.

Its last successful task was pulling a 5vz from a frame and as I pulled onto the asphalt in front of the garage it died. I bought every maintenance item I could think of-
-new injectors
-new injector lines
-new fuel pump
-new fuel filter and bowl
-new gaskets and filters for the fuel mixing bowl
-oil filter
-hydraulic filter
-hydraulic fluid
-inner/outer air filters

I’m going to try to go through it, but in my 44 years I’ve never seen that thing just die like that. I think possibly injection pump, but we’ll see. I’m not a diesel guy and it’s got a Perkins 152, so equipped with a shop manual, we’ll see what I can do.

Sorry for the passing of your dad, caring for a parent is perhaps one of the hardest things to do, sounds like you did right by him to the end. That is something to be proud of.

Finished up the trailer today, to make room to work on another TW members truck tomorrow. New wiring with some excess cat 6 wire, repurposed the tail lights from the deer blind, and put on a new jack.

I keep thinking about buying the snowblower for my x500. Right now I have a 24" Ariens and a 4 ft plow for the ATV, but the plow isn't as useful later in the winter when I can no longer push banks back with it.

 

I'm curious to see how it performs.

This property is new to me so I haven't had a winter there yet. It's a second home for both my wife and I and her parents so there won't always be someone there. The wind is predominantly from the NW in this region which is the direction of the garage and driveway and directly across from a wide open potato field. So it could could be a few days of blowing snow before anyone tackles the job.

The snow will most definitely drift against the doors and fill the driveway. I want to be able to just fire this rug up in the garage and start blasting right out of the door.

I've never owned an actual snowblower. My full time home could probably use one but I don't want to use the space up in the garage and shed.

 

Don't know if you have a place to blow the snowbanks back, but a few times a winter, I'll plow my driveway, then follow up with the snowblower to blast the windrows out in the yard or into the bush before they harden up.

 

I'm never alone it seems -- good old Murphy is always hanging around.
Have to fix this before I can do that..

My condolences. I hope your good memories ease your pain. My Dad passed on Thanksgiving at the age of 83. COPD was what caused his demise. 20 years retired Army and a patriot through and through. He never took a shortcut and always "did it right". He never taught you a lesson but if you watched him you never stopped learning a lesson. He left me many things, one of which was his 2009 Tacoma. I need to start a new thread that uses his truck to honor him. We just purchased vanity plates, SARG-E7 as a tribute to my father who retired a Sargent 1st Class, E7. Thanks for sharing what made your father special to you.

 

Bless your dad and my condolences to you. Helpful to hear others who have struggled with loss and are trying to get past the grief, I hope you’re finding peace, your father was a good man.

My dad was a Marine, released from active duty before he would have gone to Vietnam, don’t know if he’d be the dad he was if he went, he was a man of conviction, but had an Irish soul that mingled a bad temper and high emotions at times.
