It still has the original 12 horse Tecumseh engine. I had the block and head face milled to match to help fix the head gasket issue.
Want mine? I'll trade you for a different mower.

Is this your only mower? Gets kind of challenging to keep a 50 year old mower in regular use.
On the other hand that Bolens was designed to be repaired just about forever.

No, I have a push mower for an acre. The Bolens was a restoration project for me and my Grandpa to work on. It got about halfway done and he got into some bad health. Now he needs it out of his garage, so I took it to mine. However, I don't have a mower deck for it, so I'm trying to rehome it so I can get a different rider.

It got way out of control last year and I almost bought a bush hog. I am trying to make a oval dirtbike track this year.

Is it worth replacing the muffler on this Cub Cadet if I'm going to sell it? The mower was free, but I had to put about $300 worth of parts on it to get it going again. The cheapest muffler I can find for it is $100. The B&S engine runs smooth, but I have no clue how many hours are on it. This is the only eye sore on it. I figure I'll price it slightly higher than what I've got in it.

I would -- but then I'm famous for burying myself in projects, not making money on them... :pout:

From a practical point of view a $100 dollar muffler probably won't add $100 to the selling price.

That's what I'm thinking. Searching the internet, the only other 33" walk behind is a $2,000 DeWalt from Home Depot and I can't find anything used in the local online markets. Maybe I'll price it a little higher...

I would not replace it, you run the risk of breaking those bolts and it's more headache on you. Just price it accordingly and let it go :D

I never understood the horizontal engines on a ZT, you have to turn the belt 90 degrees, more pulleys, brackets, bolts, etc. I agree they are usually easier to work on though.

That is a desirable piece that doesn't come up often in the used market, I think it will sell quickly. Mowers are hot right now, you can always take a lower price if offered.

My childhood go-cart had to be started that way. My dad built it using a lot of lawnmower junkyard parts. He got an old Murray mower and used the engine, tires, transmission, etc. That thing was fun! It had the 5spd manual with reverse and it got up to 35 mph.

Pictured with a 5hp briggs and centrifugal clutch but it originally had an 8hp w/ 5spd manual off the murray.

That is cool!! No helmet, like when I was growing up

When I was a teen my dad acquired an old Murray with a bad deck, I put a smaller pulley on the trans, it would scoot :D

    Still thinking about it.
Does anybody care to guess what would be a good asking price for this Yanmar 1401d with loader, mower and tiller? All serviceable but not nearly like new. The hitch hardware is a shambles and missing pins etc..

I got it cheap but don’t really have a need for it. Located in Alaska.

    $4000-$5000?

Nah, one belt off the PTO/elec clutch going to a driveshaft with one idler/tensioner pulley and the other side, shaft with two belts off pulleys running thru an idler each and then driving the hydros. VERY simple, no twisted belts, no belts changing direction or having any angles or twists, , belts under constant tension so they never come off. [at least not in the now 19 years I have owned mine] It's pretty much exactly like a rear wheel drive vehicle is set up and you darn well don't see vertical engines in vehicles. [accessories off one end of the crank, power transmission off the other end of it..
