Picked up a dead Crapsman riding mower tonight. 16 HP B&S Intek like motor. It spins really fast lol, either valve stuck or crank/rod snapped. I really just wanted the wheels and some other odds and ends off of it so it really doesn't matter. I might strip the controls off of it and hook it up to my pull mower.

I sort of feel compelled to fix it though, it's in pretty good shape and I feel like I could find another dead mower with a serviceable motor and make it work.

I also feel like this is how a hoarding problem starts. I could easily see myself being that dude in the suburban house with 30 broken mowers in his yard. I do have an HOA, so maybe only 20.

    My wife is mildly concerned.

You got a point! I sold the beater Talon in two days sitting on the road compared to the 5+ months on Marketplace when I live at the old place.

    Ha!

I spent last weekend cleaning out my garage because even I was getting embarrassed by it. Then I roll in a broken riding mower because...reasons I guess.

Every time I bust @$$ cleaning and get a nice clear space something seems to land in it. Magnets I think... :notsure:

Getting so much iron in the garage that compasses won't work near by -- hikers getting lost, planes can't fly over...

I mean to be fair to myself, in my garage I currently have my Pioneer that I am getting ready to rewire up a switch panel and some lights on, and my boys 4 wheeler which I had to rewire a bad starter switch and rear light.

The 4wheeler stays at my cabin, and my SxS usually lives on my trailer in my storage unit(Yeah, I got a back up garage lol, it's for work though so it doesn't count). And my tractor is like the size of a riding mower...

So a dead mower isn't that bad. Right?

Hey, scrap prices keep going the inverse of my 401K, it may look smart to hoard at a certain point.

I got one sitting beside my drive. Supposed to have a fam reunion in 2 weeks. Been volentold by the war department to have my "shit" stored out of sight.

No choice. Clean it up or no "good time" time .

A lot of the stuff I have is old and built in a time when mundane utility items like engines were built with quality being a little higher up on the priority list than the ultimate company profit.

Naturally, I realize they were built in factories as merely mass produced items, however I like to believe that the long dead men who built this old iron took some pride in their work. I keep them as reminders of times and values past -- as long as I endure so will the old iron.

Let me set the mood for this. Last night we got this:
    https://youtu.be/yzKjv9yHvXE

    #Beverly Hillbillies Theme#
Let me tell ya a story of my day of Hell
Poor Sumbitch tryna brushhog in the field
Then all a sudden, the driveline went a thuddin....
    https://youtu.be/tLhl-URoSYQ

Broke my 3205 driveshaft barrels brushhogging today then everything went to hell.
The driveshaft barrels on the 3205 sheared at the bottom of my property 1/4 mile from the house. I offloaded the hog to the 3225 and hauled it up to the house.

Then it got really, really bad. I decided I could stick a hitch tube in the 3205's receiver hitch and then stick it in the hitch adapter on the 3225s 3-pt and lift the 3205 from the rear. I took straps to strap the front wheels straight. Started to get the two together and it started DUMPING rain. Oh well, already drenched, keep going.

I was leaning down messing with the hitches and felt POW! something hit me below my ear right on the jawbone--like a rock. I thought something had kicked off the tractor driveline or something. Then it started coming down--HAIL! The same size stuff as last night and I was in it 1/4 mile from the house.

I was getting pelted and put my forearms over my head to keep from getting my skull split and ran to a tree and got under a big limb. That slowed it down to where it didn't hurt so bad and my forearms kept it off my head.

Waited it out ~7 minutes and it turned back to dumping rain. I got both hitches married and the rear of the 3205 lifted then POW! in the head again, hail coming down for round 2. Took cover and covered my head and took my beating until it stopped again.

Got on the tractor and started trying to go. I couldn't steer with them both locked hitch-hitch so I unhooked and drove up the hill freezing and drenched. Changed clothes and got my hardhat on and raincoat and went back down and chained the hitches together and got it up the hill.

    Good grief, what a fiasco!

First time I have washed the trailer since I bought it 10 years ago. Also emptied out all the crap being stored on the inside. Feels good to have a usable trailer again.

Post broken part pictures when you can.
Clever way to move the disabled tractor.

I did take a whippin. Probably gonna take a $300 driveshaft at the least when I can get the energy to tear into it. Dead beat right now.
