When I was doing my internship with the Park Service, my crew boss used one of those Stihl brush cutters with a blade similar to hack down an 8" round tree. He just hacked at it like a beaver and it took it down probably faster than a chain saw. You need a chain saw style helmet with the mesh face shield with one of those. They'll throw some chips in a hurry.

Those who use a mulcher/chipper, what would you say is the justification for using that versus burning debris and then buying truck loads of mulch? I can get a yard of good natural cypress mulch for $53. I would need to get 30 yards of mulch out of the chipper to get the same volume/cost and it would just be lower quality woods and not cypress.

I don't want a chipper to make mulch, I want one just to get rid of all the tree limbs that fall out of our large oaks after every storm.

I really do need to buy a trailer, but it's not in the budget right now. :pout:

And the mower ran fine after all my investigation. Weirdest thing...

Did you happen to shut it right off when you were done? Like full hi rpm shut off?
I usually let mine idle for like 30 seconds before shut down. Gets rid of a little heat.

Nah, I kinda half throttled it to the front of the house by the garage. It might be a fuel delivery issue possibly, but taking the carb off this twin is kind of a PITA. Gonna have to grind down a sacrificial wrench to get the bottom shut off solenoid off. I'll keep an eye on it. I always use fresh ethanol free gas, but you never know a piece of dirt coulda got somewhere. Only takes a minute spec to get in one of the small ports.

    Convenience.
Burning takes a lot of time and is frequently banned by the County during dry season.

A 1/2 hour with the chipper can make a big mess disappear.

I don't really care about the quality of the mulch it just goes around the trees or in the hedgerow.

    Sorry to hear this.

The original problem occurred when you were on vacation, no telling how hot the motor got and for how long.

It could have been already doomed.

As long as the pump spins freely a plumbing supply house should be able to get you a new motor.

A couple of rear window decals...
Got my finishing mower blades fixed this weekend. The middle blade came loose just enough to free spin on the shaft. The washer was crushed and the nut was seriously buggered up. My big impact had a tough time getting it off. The nut looks like it cross threaded on the shaft.F98F66EE-DB37-4B96-8BFD-3F4C6A40D01C.jpg6A060B84-793B-47D1-B0E0-9EB97DD88A55.jpg
The shaft was okay so I was able to get a new nut and washer. All the blades were a bit bent out of shape. So I ordered new ones. Hopefully I can bend the old blades back in to the correct shape. :fingerscrossed:0EFEA236-B81F-49B3-B9F2-D53BBA663F19.jpg

id get goats but keeping them safe is tough. bobcats are large here, the coyotes are bigger than any dog around, and the cougar can kill them with one swing. fortunately the bear only show up for the blackberries.

im essentually just wanting a vast quantity of brush to go away. wet most of the year here so decomp happens quick. id have to haul all of it quite a distance to safely burn. if not i risk something lighting back up when im sleeping or at work. last 2 summers burn bans prohibit any fires. chipper runs safe wet or dry year round. my wooden nickel of thought.
