But they still know who you are and where you're from. You are in the south and word gets around.
Remember your still an outsider for quite a while.
On a different note welcome home.

I live out in the country on a narrow township road, just wide enough for 2 vehicles, no shoulder just ditch. I mow the ditch on the other side of the road. It does make things look nice. It also let's people know how far they go into the ditch when farm equipment is coming. New neighbor got the idea to cut the ditch real quick when he saw other people doing it.
Yes, everybody waves to each other. Sometimes if I see a neighbor cutting when I'm cutting I'll drive the mower 1/4 mile down the road just to visit.

Yeah, my non-native accent definitely gives me away. Usually when I'm speaking with people face to face for more than a brief moment (barber, gun store, tractor store [getting my recent ZT mower],...), I get asked where I'm from. I admit to being a California refugee, but I am also very clear that I left CA to get away from the political situation and high cost of living, to live in a FREE state. Once they understand I am not one of the types that is trying to "Californicate" their state, they are very welcoming :D

I often get asked - "What made you leave California?"
    My answer - "California".
It may take a moment, but once the person gets it, they laugh and welcome me to KY.

I was just browsing the Owners Manual for my new John Deere zero turn mower. I saw the below illustration in the Safety section. Now suppose a person saw this, but didn't speak/read the written information, all they could understand was the drawing. I can just imagine someone mis-understanding the picture...

"In order to be fully safe when operating around children, make sure to run over the child going forward, and also going backwards for maximum effect".

I have a warped sense of humor, I know.

Sometimes being able to read (and comprehend) the words is worth a thousand pictures. Same applies to dashboard hieroglyphics.

    I'll play.
South side-Neighbor who sold us the property. Retired carpenter, into boats. Salt of the earth type.
West side-Neighbor who is a 1/4 mile away, can't see their house and they never explore the back part of their property.
North side-Mostly wetland area. No idea how close the nearest house is. Inhabited by deer, frogs and other wild life.
East side- I think someone lives on the property but nothing I can see or hear. House must be a least a half mile away.

Seriously! Last year I was brush-hogging a friend's pasture when a light on the dash came on that I had not seen before, and the computer cut the power. I spent 30+ min on my phone trying to search the internet for a clue as to what the light meant. I could find nothing online; I had to call the dealership service dept. I described the light to him to find out it was water in the fuel filter. Five min fix cost me almost an hour to diagnose. Luckily I got a hold of him just before he went home for the day. When I got home, I added a picture of the dash light descriptions from the manual to my phone favorites. So if I should be away from home again with a similar hieroglyphic issue, I would be able to look it up and translate it into something I comprehend.

I always try to stay armed, even if it's just a little peashooter in my PJs pocket. But I haven't considered practicing from the tractor seat before. I think I might put on my old IDPA rig and see if I can still fit between the armrests.o_O

ok since this is a friendly BS thread... gonna run with this one for a sec.

TL= what part of Southern Ohio you from?

and heres a quick funny for you.

backstory: im from a place called South Point Ohio. its literally the most southern point in the state. for real.

all of the time people would say= thats a pretty southern sounding accent you got. where you from?

    me=South Point Ohio.

people= Oh is that near Cincinnati?

me= nah its about 50 miles further south than Cincinnati & 120 miles East.

people= so you live in Kentucky then.

me= laughing of course, nah look at your map. see that little tip down there on the border of WVa & KY? Thats South Point.

people= oh didnt know you could get more south than Cincinnati in Ohio.

me= Yep if i go to the top of my hill i can see Wva, Ky & ohio all at the same time. Its a tri state area.

people= how can you see 3 states at once?

me= ah look at this picture. (show pic of me on top of the hill in Ohio, looking over the other 2 states.)

then to make things even more confused? we moved about 10 years ago & now i live in a place referred to as South Eastern Ohio. LMAO

fun stuff! now back to the regularly scheduled thread jacking.
