Epoxy probably takes too long for the factory to use.
Not that I will ever do it, but how do you hold each magnet in position for the first hour or so while the epoxy begins to harden?

I just position them as evenly spaced as possible using the naked eye.

The magnets stick themselves to the cast iron FW just fine.

They are spaced far enough apart that they don't attract to each other.

For a long epoxy cure I've used a drop of crazy glue to hold parts in position while the epoxy cures. Just need a space with no epoxy to work the crazy glue. For when clamps don't work.

    This is great!

I'm embarrassed that I never thought of that...also embarrassed that my crazy glue lives in the same drawer as my epoxy!

I got the engine put back together and installed in chassis. Motor purrs!

13 volts and change at idle. I'll call that a win. Sorry for the poor pic. Hands are dirty.

I did get a chance to test run it on the lawn. Very nice running rig.

The owner didn't balk at all when I told him I need $400 for the new engine.

    On to the next challenge.

    Picking it up tomorrow.

Owner tells me the hydro pumps are bad. Of course I'm making 600 mile round trip to grab it. Never in love with all that seat time.

Will post more info in a couple days when I get a chance to get my hands dirty.

Sorry about the orientation, it's the way the seller had them posted.

Is a 10-12 hour trip really worth whatever deal you’re getting on this?

Looks very similar to the ExMark Lazer Z I had. I this they are both built on similar assembly lines.

Do filters & new fluid first?

600 miles for a tactor haul is big. reason im asking. ive got a near new dr walk behind mower. used once before pa passed. is it worth the journey to only sell it? feel bad giving it away but free time and miles add up. 500 is my haul.

    Got the Toro home.

The model is 74226. They started making this model in 2002. I haven't checked the serial number to get a more specific born on date. 20 years is close enough for me.

    Preliminary examination:

Has a couple holes in the deck big enough to toss a dead cat thru.

Engine sounds good. Started quickly with the jump pack. Have not checked to see if it's putting out proper A/C voltage from the rectifier. (I fully expect I'll be doing magnets and a rectifier).

The unit does not move at all under its own power. I noticed it was very oily around one of the pumps. Did not get a chance to check resivior and the filter...ran out of daylight. It might be empty of hydro oil. I'll let you know what I find.

Engine looks to be original. Not entirely sure. These units commonly came with the Kohler Command 25S. This one has the "Pro" 25 HP version. The only difference was the Pro has the cyclonic air filter. It's supposedly stretches your oil changes out to 200 hours vs 100...even 100 hrs seems like a lot for 2 qts of oil.

No severe oil leaks were noted. The usual around the head cover gaskets is about all. I plan on power washing the hell out of it in the next couple days.

Stand by for pics and findings...

I hope it is someone starting out a lawn care business. Those are nice and durable.

A few of the machines I have rehabbed, have gone to young guys trying to get a business off the ground. I always give them a break on the price.

I gave the unit a good power wash.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I started the unit, obviously with the assistance of my jump pack. I clamped on my analog voltage tester from Harbor Freight. I'm pretty happy to see 14+/- at high idle. That saves me $60+/-, in addition of regluing the magnets..

Stand by...my OCD may compel me to remove the the flywheel and check things over properly. Not knowing drives me nuts!
