OK, here's a pic of a Allis Chalmers tractor from the rear. Do you notice the 'tool box' on the left fender? That was my 'seat' as a 10 YO boy from the Lower Eastside of NYC. I was the goffer for the farmer Chester Overly from East Earl, PA, - he was affectionately known as 'Bop' to all the young family members. Guess I became family because that's what I called him too! He called me 'Mike from Pikes Peak' and I would always tell him I was from NY. Hey, what did I know. On Sunday's we would go for family drives and he would always drive 10 miles an hour under the speed limit; his wife - her name was Esther and the youg'uns called her 'Gog', was the exact opposite, always at or over the limit by a few MPH.

Great life way back then some 57 years ago!

A rainy day here in PA, so I had some time to mess with the 1254. New front tires, and made a front weight setup out of an old snow plow frame, a couple of extra rear wheel weights, and spare lift rod.

The lift rod worked out perfectly. I couldn’t believe it when I realized I could bolt it right on sandwiched between the foot rest and the foot rest mounting block. The only “fabrication” I had to do was drill one hole to mount the weights, and weld on a small piece to mount the old lift rod to the plow mount. And I obviously got rid of the extra hole and cleaned up the corners a bit.

You can see I was welding a bit hot on these two. I adjusted it for the other two beads.

My brother and I used to stand on the rear cultivators of dads 140 while he cultivated corn and tobacco for hours. We thought it was fun, until you hit a rock and the spring rod goes up and your finger gets pinched under the collar. There’s no way I’d let my kids ride back there

I've been eyeballing another Cub 3000 series for a couple months on FB marketplace. A 3205 with a 48" deck which is like my 3240 loader tractor but with a liquid cooled Kawasaki. These are hydraulic deck lift, shaft drive, shaft drive decks, expandable hydraulic circuit up to 4 spool valves. Started at $850. Dropped to $650. Just hanging there for a month. I sent a message Tuesday.
"What's your no nonsense, no tire kicker, no haggle, drive up and load it if it runs and drives price?" $450.

Guy let me borrow his trailer to bring it home so I didn't have to make 2 trips for the GT and deck. Loaded up and went for it. 658 hours on it. Runs great. I know almost nothing else about it until I dig in.

It’s called mower plus. Put out by JD. It doesn’t have older mower options pre loaded but you can add your specific mower as a tag.

Ok, it’s JohnDeere thing, which means they’re learning your mowing habits and anyone else who is using the app.
Don’t think for a second this app isn’t reporting back to the mothership so they can use the data to develop a way to snag more cash from someone’s pocket.
Sorry, JD had some nice equipment at one time, now they’ve turned into a cash grubbing monster requiring only their “technicians” to be allowed to to repair and authorize any repairs. I won’t be part of that.

Update on the HF trencher now that I’ve used it some. Overall, it works pretty good.

Unfortunately, I’m already having issues with the hydraulic cylinders. The bucket curl cylinder started leaking the other day. HF sends a bunch of seals with the machine, so I took it apart and changed all of them. A little better but still leaking. Did it a second time. Still leaking.

So I called HF and they sent out a new cylinder. Well, they’re going to... It takes 5-10 business days to send them out apparently.

So I took the leaky cylinder to a hydraulic shop. He took it apart and looked at it. Said the O-ring that seals the backup looks like the groove was machined a hair too deep. He removed the backup all together and swapped in a different setup. Don’t remember what he called it. Now it’s no longer leaking.

The bad news? All three of the other cylinders are doing the same thing now. So, I’m going to call in the morning and buy whatever the hydraulic shop swapped in and redo the rest.

But, it still beats shoveling. I dug my wife a hole for a pond today with it. This is actually a 605 gallon oil containment tank that @LooseNut gave to me a while back.

My Wife took some HD degreaser to it today and cleaned it all out, but we are still putting a liner in it. Now we need to stack a bunch of rocks around it, and she will make it look all pretty. Also a small picket fence to keep the goose out...

And, I must say, I really like not having the hoe on the back of the tractor. Works out pretty great loading the dump bucket on the back of the Kubota as I go.

Cool that you've got a fix for it all lined up. I envy you guys that have easy-to-dig soil. My yard, even after a good 2hr rain shower a few days ago, is like cement.
