Poured rain all day.... The porch project is under way!!
Let's just say that we had no idea what was under that porch. Figured about 3blocks high of pea gravel. Let's just say that 12 blocks deep we still hadn't hit the bottom!

Spent about 9hrs running a Vac hose on a super sucker Vac Truck. Been about 25 years since I been on the end of one of those. I'm beat.

Good news is the I beams that we pulled under there held perfectly as we vac'd the gravel out.

Bad news is there is still more gravel to come out & none of my supports are any where close to long enough now. Gonna have to get some pipe & make longer supports next week.

Will get pix & a full description in once we are farther along. This is a job.

 

sounds like quite a workout.

 

im just finished cutting truss 2x4s. going to try and get the steel roof on in 2 weeks. big push. get the horse next weekend.

 

I don't envy you on the hay burner.

If you are "horse people"...... They love them & pour zillions of dollars into them. They eat, sleep & exist to have & take care of them. That's great for them & seems to give them enjoyment.

If you are not? You are about to be miserable at every turn while all your hard earned money & hers goes into something she will love & you will suffer through for about 25 years.

Trust me on this. Been there, lived that. Wife's family is horse obsessed. Cost them marriages, houses, cars their kids colleges & everything in between.

We always had cows instead. cause people didnt frown on you for eating them.
Now days if you don't live someplace like we do? People rag you for having or even eating cows.

DOGS & guns are my weakness. Both of those cost/take everything now days too!
English Bullydogs can break your savings in a single day, every week. Still like them better than people.

Why are you putting the fence so high and having a roof? Usually a shoulder height fence and or electric band hold in horses in my experience. This looks like a dog kennel for hunting dogs rather than a horse run.

 

yeah. not cheap, but less than most. tiny barn is huge for 1. dont need a trailer, she fits in my honda and tacoma. shes a wee one.

 

I think your horse pen may turn into a mud pit, even for a mini horse. I’m not meaning to be a dick but I know how muddy it can get around a barn with cows or sheep.

 

roof is for rain, and to cover a few bales. we've had coyotes show up. if we were gone she would be attacked. neighbors dont have chickens anymore from a shorter fence. cougar would be the real reason for secure (kennel) look.

 

How big will the mini horse be when full grown?

Make sure you use the correct chips. Horses are allergic to some wood. Also once you have one you’ll probably need two because they are heard animals they are social and like to have friends.

 

i would like a buddy for her at some point. gf is home all day so that helps. my MIL moves in next month so a therapy animal helps. total cost on barn, pasture fence, and horse is less than 8k to start. considering i have over 80k in my tacoma its not that bad.

 

i like what you wrote. makes sense. i like animals, hotrods, 2-strokes, and guns better than most people. being a happy homebody this sounded like a fun adventure. hope it shows her we NEED a tractor next!

Put down dimension fertilizer 2 weeks ago and the yard is looking good! Cant even tell I have cut down over 60 trees in this picture!
