Found 1 of the magnets had delaminated from the flywheel.

These Kohler's will run and blow a head gasket if the air flow passages (fins) are plugged off. This motor was severely choked with mouse nests. Even with a blown head gasket and almost no cooling, it ran amazing.

When they heat up, the magnets let go of the flywheel and then stick to the stator. The magnets are only held in place by double sided tape. At this point you have no more charging ability.

If you go to buy any Kohler powered machine, take your harbor freight multimeter with and check the voltage when the machine is running. The voltage should be 13.5 or a bit more at full throttle.

If you only read 12.4-7 volts, you are only reading present battery voltage. The magnets may have let go of the flywheel and the unit is not charging properly.

I like to bake the flywheel in the grill. I usually have to heat up the flywheel to about 350* before the magnets will let go. This one only had to go to a bit over 200* and the magnets let go. I'm guessing she had been run hot for quite some time.

I'll will wire brush and degrease the magnets and flywheel tomorrow. They take a while to cool down.

I have to take care and not wire brush my paint marks. The magnets need to be installed in the flywheel the same they come out. Getting them mixed up will result in poor charging or no charging at all.

Got some runoff mitigation for the driveway done yesterday. It's a project that is ongoing and probably will be ongoing.

Does your Kohler have the SAM feature?

Models with the spark advanced module were problematic. Kohler has a kit that gets rid of the SAM module.

Wire wheeled all tape residue and degreased with brake clean.

Slathered up with JB weld and clamped.

Should be able to start reassembling soon.

Back a few years ago when the guy about me was the owner of both properties above us. He would rent the places out to the first ones that gave him cash. You can imagine the type of tenents he got. None of them would have 4wd/AWD and would try to make it up and down the road sliding all over the place, heading to my well head. :stayontopic:
I put down RIP RAP alongside the road to detour this kind of behavior. So today I started removing it and relocating it next to the shop, where it will be repurposed.:stayontopic:
Anyway I was using the FEL for the first time since rebuilding the right lift cylinder, it did great.
I also moved some gravel in our driveway to fill in the ruts going into the garage.
Oh yeah checked out that stump, man what a solid piece of wood. Will start burning again tomorrow.

Having experienced it I can agree that it's a special part of hell having neighbors that are renters.

First picture is from the drainage from the back yard piped out still have water flowing. It's above the stump so I think it's helping keep it wet so doesn't burn so fast. And barrel back on stump

    Cool!

Years ago there was an old timers weekend not too far away - I believe the old timers have passed on for the most part.
I have seen the steam traction engines working before but never pulling that number of ploughs.
Also impressive was the about 16 men operating the ploughs as well.

Got it all back together. Couple issues that had to be dealt with...

Oil cooler supply lines had shitty hose clamps. Pretty good leaks on 3 of the 4 nipples. New worm drive hose clamps instead of crappy spring clamps. We leak free now!

Second issue was a stuck carb float. She stuck open. Injected a pretty large amount of raw gas into the intake. Swapped out carbs wit a known good carb. I'm kinda confused why the choke now decided to stick open. It ran great even with a bad HG. Must have jarred something when it was knocking around the bench.

Regardless, the unit cuts great and has lots of power.

Note: it's a lot easier to adjust the throttle linkage with both spark plug boots in place. In my defense, I got it pretty close on one cylinder.PXL_20240526_203835521.jpg PXL_20240526_203844070.jpg PXL_20240526_203852926.jpg

Did some mowing yesterday inbetween the porch stones.. Good thing with all that storm last night. Not gonna mow for a few days now.

Still looking for a good set of tractor/bar lugs for my ZXT. All the ones I've found so far have too many too close together.

You might need to change the tire size slightly to get what you want. Do you have a manufacturer in mind? I've seen some with spread out bars but not in the size you mentioned earlier.
