I have a Cub Cadet LTX1042 from 2011, or 2012 not really sure. Anyhow, it's got about 200hrs on it, and I just replace both spindles. One had a completely shredded bearing, so I just went ahead and replaced both, Pretty cheap on Amazon...

No real issues with this mower other than that..so I can't really complain about it. Other than the rocker arm cover gasket....I think I finally got that fixed last year though.

Mowed some rough stuff the other day. It was intermittent on the noise so im guessing the spindles bearings are going out. It was doing it before. Just wasnt sure of what it was.

what are everyones thoughts on bearing budget-
buy cheapest and grease if possible? or spend bucks on the best? my s/c on my tacoma eats them. try and buy good for that.

I buy the cheapest and remove the shield and add more grease.

Most deck spindle assemblies come with sealed bearings and no grease zerks in the housing.

I remove the seal ( shield ) so the grease can enter the bearing. Still, it's a losing battle. Gravity never really allows the top bearing to get greased if you have a spindle housing with a grease zerk.

To me it's a monumental waste of grease trying to fill the entire spindle housing with grease. It's just not realistic.

That's actually an old trick for older style diesels.

If you were a Ford guy & had a 6.9 or 7.3 you know this trick. An ounce of 2cycle oil for every gallon of gas in the tank. It will change the sound of those injectors in minutes.

Originally guys used transmission fluid, but then they found out the additives in it were abrasive vs the oil. So while a quick fix for the short term, you wont want to run the tranny fluid in it all the time.

Not sure if duramax's benefit from oil as the additives or not. The diesel forum will for sure know.

My current additives are always bioclean & then some hot shot.

This is what I put in, if I can remember. I put it in my 50 gallon transfer tank as well so the tractor and skidsteer get it as well.

I don't know about running it in newer trucks but it helps my '03

Yesterday on my way home I got behind a 2nd gen Tacoma pulling a loaded dump trailer. They were really close to a dump and I heard a tire squeal. When I noticed what was going on, the truck and trailer were bucking front to back like a bucking bull going straight.

Luckily the guy was going slow and was able to turn in the place without wrecking, I know it scared the crap out of him and luckily he didn't lose control.

I've seen the fish tail and had that happen but never seen the bucking. The trailer wasn't mounded over by any means but it was full.

Doubtful, probably much more. You're looking at 80k worth of mower here boys.8800a_terrain_cut_mower_r4d060272_large_a4c2a987d46748c285d46a3d900cf1f9c6822841.jpg

We have three of them new at work this year and they are the biggest POS you've ever seen. To be fair every new piece of equipment we've received in the last couple of years, be it John Deere, Toro, or whatever lesser brand, has been nothing but problematic. It really is astonishing to see how much prices have went up and how much quality control has went down over the last few years.

So I would have to know where you are to understand what type of turf they are trying to maintain. Then it comes down to what level of course they're trying to provide for their members. Also, 9 or 18 hole? If it is 18 holes, in the right place, most likely at a minimum around 300K a year budget, but that's for a goat Ranch. For a mid-level course you're probably talking 6 to 750,000 a year, mid to higher end 3/4 of a million to 1.25. And then you can just go up from there determining how exclusive and how well maintained you want it to be. The budgets for the most exclusive courses in America, like Augusta National is no doubt in the tens of millions.

    So I looked.

Speaking of diesel fuel, I finally got up the nerve to change the fuel filter for my Kubota 2006 GL3130(32hp) tractor. I've owned it since it had about 50 hours. Now has 850. Fuel filter had never been changed nor had the sediment/water trap ever been emptied. I just didn't want to deal with air in the lines and the "it's running fine, why mess with it" mentality prevailed.

    20230621_102412.jpg

This is what I found. Not terrible, but not good either.
    Fuel Filter 2.jpg

    Fuel Filter 3.jpg

Didn't find any water, and even better the bleeder valve did it's job and I was air free after 15-20 seconds. I should have taken a pic, but the design around the sediment bowl means you have to tip it at an angle to put it in place, so some fuel spills out of the bowl, meaning air in, before you get it installed.
