Anyone ever owned a Bolens G174? Any opinions on them? I've been on the lookout for a manual, diesel, 4x4 sub-compact. Primary usage will be snow removal.

This popped up a few days ago. $5k seems like a lot, but then considering all the attachments maybe not. Hard to say what shape its in. I do see the kitty litter under it in the pics. And the mower and tiller attachments obviously haven't been used in a while.

Seen a G154 sell for $3k a few weeks ago, and theres another G154 with a nice loader and push blade (in nice overall condition with lower hrs) listed for $5800 right now in NH.

I'd go see it in person and see exactly where that oil is coming from. Could be an easy fix, may be an expensive fix.

Yup. Hes not too far away from me - a few hrs. I was more wondering if its even worth looking at for that price?

Im still learning the used market. Most stuff Im seeing right now is 2WD or hydro, neither of which are ideal for me. Not a ton of stuff out there in my area like this

Edit: based on what I read online they are good tractors. Though people report finding parts is getting tough.

    Anyone know about retaining walls?
Got one made of railroad ties that I suspect might be original to house so over 20 years old. Showing rot and weak spots. I expect some soil erosion to have occurred behind wall due to moles, other wildlife, and just because.
I think I would rather have a hill. Can I just bury it as is to build up a hillside or should wall be ripped down first?
How high is risk of avalanche if I pull it down? At highest, it is about 15 feet tall and is about 25 feet away from corner of house.

A lot of it depends on how much rain comes down towards it, etc. Can you share some pictures?

The guy who owns the blower ask if he could have the parts direct shipped to my work, I said sure.

I ask him 3 weeks ago when they would be here, he said let me find out.......crickets.

He better hurry up, I'm gonna forget how this thing goes together and it may be sucking instead of blowing :anonymous:

As Creed said it depends on water but how high your going. I have a 2.5-3 ft high retaining wall block each block weighs approximately 80#'s. In front of it I put leach field pipe surrounded by 3/4 wash stone. I let it settle a good bit and added about 2-3" of topsoil, grass seed so it drains. I did go overboard behind with the wash stone since I have natural springs back there.

Post up some pictures and dimensions I'm confident someone here can give you some good advice.

Morning y'all, we did 6 bundles on Monday and 10 yesterday I hope we can get 10 every day.
That's really good for a group of older guys compared to the other ones who are on average 20 years our juniors. Man my body was telling me it's quitting time yesterday .

I'm good, I put a new carb on his push mower and haven't been paid for that. I bought the carb

I’d be real careful burying old railroad ties. Theres a good chance they are creosote treated and that’s a no no to have on your property in some zones. If you wind up selling the place you would need to disclose what’s buried and if they find that stuff it could wind up a law suit down the road. Just sayin.

From your description of the geometry of this wall, if it’s within a 1.5/1 slope from any structure, it could pose a problem upon removal. Basically if you shot a straight line from the edge of your foundation down at an angle to the base of the wall, what’s the angle? A 1.5/1 slope is around 33.69 degrees, so if it’s steeper than that, you might want to build something else after removal of the old wall. Even a 4’ ecology block wall or something to lay down that slope. I wouldn’t go any steeper than a 1/1 which is 45 degrees. Depending on the environment, weather, soil conditions, you want to research all that before exposing your house to a hill that may not hold it up. Pictures would help.

Last of the seasons wood to be cut/split on the 16 yr old Built-Rite. Cost for the splitter was $12K, and after 280+ cords, all its needed was
one O ring. Original engine/pump. Got our $'s worth for sure.

    OTOH....
If it was creosote treated it may likely still be in decent shape after 20-plus years.. and not in need of replacement. ;)
I always find that creosote treated stuff lasts just about forever. The old "green copper" treated lumber lasted a very long time. This newer "yella wood" stuff you're lucky to get 10 years. It might last forever in California or maybe Phoenix, but not in southeast Louisiana.
