I have to wear ear protection firing ours up. It's enclosed in a 52' trailer so it gets loud. :goingcrazy:

Likely why they paint ‘em yellow. That was good enough back then. Anybody who knows Cat just automatically brings muffs & plugs when they come on location.

I thought about that, but then realized the mess I'll have when I change the tires here in a couple years

All it can say is that the previous owner (wife) daddy owns a very large commercial/residential construction company in this area. He built this house and other buildings on the property. Spared no expense. Much of the fixtures/amenities/construction is high-end, bordering on overkill. Then came a divorce. We loved the property with all the large oak trees. People tell me there's enough Old Chicago brick inside this house to build three more houses. The property was more than we wanted to spend... but we're too old to build new. You gotta buy what's available for sale if you can swing it, and we could. We weren't going to say "no" because it has a big generator. It's 60kw. The inspection guy said it'll run everything on this property and the next 3 properties combined. The guy that filled the diesel tanks said the International Paper mill in Bogalusa has the same generator. Why do we have this particular one? I can't say.

Ok besides being stupid (IMHO, Why would anyone do that?..) i would rewire and run the pump to the house and separate living from working.
Either that or run another Gen plug and a second Gen..
Anyway you slice it, it’s gonna cost..

Welp guess what I'm doing today?
You guessed it pressure washing pipe.
I did purchase a cover for the generator that is supposed to be able to be used in the inclement weather. We'll see. Putting it together and installing should be on my list this weekend .

They built the shop 5 years before the house and lived in a camper beside the shop is the why. The good thing is the shop has it's own bathroom and septic tank.

    Wow………
    Never heard this before…..
As stupid as it sounds, I can understand a few reasons for it..

You’re going to have to elect. connect to the house.
Knowing you, I’m sure you could do at least 98% of it by yourself..
I’m sure you have a ditch witch somewhere…lol.

What I can't figure out is we have 2 pressure tanks. One in the shop bathroom, which makes sense and one under the house, which makes no sense.

The wire from the pressure switch on the tank under the house goes to the one in the shop. I could probably do some rewiring and just tie them together in the shop and put a breaker in at the house, now that you got me to thinking about it

As a guess, because it’s parallel and not series pipe routing. I don’t know the systems. In my way of thinking, they have one way valves so, the pump runs when either tank gets low and since one tank is low it can’t build pressure in the other tank
Because it’s held at a higher pressure.
    I don’t know.

    This is correct.

Either the shop or the house can "call for water" independent of the other due to the check valves at each pressure tank.

Every pump cycle both tanks will equalize with the majority of the water flowing to the tank with lower pressure.

I will illustrate with a high quality technical drawing below ;) :
    PS - pressure tank
    > < - check valve
    ---- - pipe

    Shop - PS <---- pump ----> PS - House

@Fargo Taco would be proud
