Anybody else run a skip tooth chain?

My cousin is a logger and I’ve heard him talk about them before. I had to ask for it at the Stihl dealer. The one I bought the other day is an RS, this new one is an RSF.

My cousin said they cut faster and less time to sharpen.

This goes on the 036 Pro. We’ll see what happens.

That's what I've primarily used on my 036 pro since I got it in '97.

There is supposedly a higher risk of kickback with the skip tooth chains, but I've never had an issue with that myself.

I use my 18V leaf blower if the snow is dry and less than 2”.

Never tried a battery unit but can’t see why not. Everything else out there is battery & no way they’d manufacture trouble.

When you said electric, did you mean with a cord?

Damn here I was thinking skip tooth was where you go and remove the rakers of every other tooth. Learn something new. Thank ya.

I've ran the green and yellow coded chains. I couldn't tell a difference one way or the other. That after cutting up hundreds of dead Ash trees.

Yeah one year the day before Xmas eve we got like 23" over two days. I cave it up on Xmas eve with just short of 3K. Could have made more but the wife was like enough is enough. I did mostly driveways. A couple years later almost no calls. Affordable snowblowers put an end to me making any money.

Down here, they are called "hardwood" chains. Yes, they cut faster - but they are subject to more kickback.

Just watch where you put the nose of the saw.

Skip tooth chains are used on the bigger cc saws to get faster cuts. Ya gotta have the ass in your saw to benefit. Don’t put one on your little Poulon Pro ya got from Menards. An 036 Pro should cut a little better with one.

This is the chain I run on both of my Stihls as well....

They are pretty sharp out of the box. But hardwoods still dull them pretty quickly.

Well yesterday was pipe leaf blowing day. Probably Do it again today and have a crew plunging what we can't blow out.
The water truck came thru and made a mud skating rink for us too.
Hope he doesn't come back today.
Have a good day and a great weekend.

Had to have the Load-N-Go brackets for the mower deck. Why doesn't JD just include the damn things in the first place? Fabbed up some legs to store the mower. Never would have known about it except for this thread, thanks!
