Well I lent them out and most people tossed in a few bucks for the use of them and sent back. Probably paid for the tools in that way. It doesn't hurt me it hurts others who could save some cash by not buying the tools.

 

Can you put some pictures of the engine? Specifically, the carb. If it has a Briggs like the carb you said it looks like it's most likely the diaphragm as others mentioned, which should be an easy fix.

11 stops 14 days my part finally showed up today.
Now I can adjust the lift rod more easily. Less than 30 seconds install time.

Pour a tiny bit of gas in carb see if it tries to start

 

Or take off the filter and try to pull crank and seal your hand over the carb intake sometimes that suction force will pull gas through

could i possibly have spark yet not enough to run? would be weird for electrical to go wonky in storage i imagine.

 

Weak spark. Could pull plug and see if its sparking

 

it is shocked me pretty good on a pull.

 

It has this diaphragm on the muffler side behind a plate that is identical in shape. You can buy a whole replacement carb too, they are pretty cheap.



You can buy an entire carb for $25. There are numbers stamped on the metal housing where the pull cord is, should be on top or the side. It will say model, spec, code I think. Match those numbers to the carb.

Get some actual starting fluid. It has way more bite than gas. Sometimes it needs that initial Hail Mary to get going. If it gave you a good zap pulling it, you should have adequate spark. It's going to spark knock pretty good on the ether, but should be enough to see what it runs like.

 

Hit the magneto and flywheel with some sandpaper and make sure all the gaskets are intact. Those older carbs if the intake is loose or any air getting in it’ll run like crap or never want to start. Does it even pop when pulled or no action at all from the motor? Also pull the plug out and see if you can scope the top of the piston.
