    Hello again

My backhoe-loader is doing better with the shuddering hydraulics but it still does it.

Works good at first, but as soon as you let go of the hydraulics and resume after a while, it is when it starts shuddering.

Someone told me that shaking hydraulics is caused by two things:
    • low on hydraulic fluid (not my case, it is full)
    • air getting in somewhere in the hydraulic system
Any places or lines in particular I should go check for air leaks?

Oh and today I noticed that this piece on the loader control valve solenoid is missing.

According to the parts catalog, this is some kind of electrical connector. Any idea what this connector does? And could it be related to the shaking hydraulics?

I have a friend who is the shop foreman at a local Deere construction shop. I’ll ask him tomorrow what may cause it and let you know what he says

My buddy at Deere is in a school all week, he said he would try and look it up tonight and see if he can let me know about the electrical switch and what it does/goes to.

I also messaged another friend who works for the same company who is a Deere mechanic in a different town. I'll see what he says as well

He said "dumb question but did you check the hydraulic filter?". Have you replaced it if it has one or cleaned it if it's a screen type?

Yeah, filters are brand new and the priority valve and the transmission mesh filter screens are clean. Could the hydraulic pump have a filter screen as well?

One of my co-workers asked me to help him with the base for his son's batting cage this coming Saturday. I'll be peeling up 50ft x4-6ft of bermuda sod and digging down 3-4", and spreading SB2.

I'm off work tomorrow and was gonna prep for it. I'm gonna use the 3240 and the 3205 to pull my dump cart. I brought my cultivator, box blade, and cart in from the wellhouse. I also have my bent ripper bar I fabbed for the box blade and am thinking about welding some 3/4" stock on it to allow it to attach to the cultivator frame.

I haven't dug into anything like nice topsoil and sodded lawn before. Everything out here is full of boulders and roots so I have to rip it up first and then scoop up the loose soil.

What can I expect with digging into that? Do ya'll think I'll be able to peel it up with my loader or do you think I'll have to shred it first? I thought about buying some sickle bar teeth and welding them on a toothbar for the bucket. I'm all ears and would love to hear any hints, tips, or tricks to do this easily.

I say try it without ripping it first. It all depends on the moisture content, rocks, etc. You may wind up having to rip it up to loosen it but try it first and go from there

I'm really considering going to TSC tomorrow and buying a couple packs of sickle bar teeth and building a piranha bar for it. I have some 3/8" flat bar here. This is gonna be sod on topsoil in a residential neighborhood so I expect pretty soft going.

While doing some research I came across this photo of 'field workers' doing what I did as a 10 YO child for a few summers on a farm in Lancaster Cty., PA (Alis Chalmers tractor post) - hoeing tobacco. This is in Connecticut under the shade, ergo shade grown tobacco which is used primarily for the outer wrapper on cigars. We never had any shade in the tobacky fields of Pennsylvania!

We would spear the freshly cut tobacco then load them onto trailers.

    upload_2020-9-29_15-58-38.jpg

Next step would be climbing in the rafters (I was too young/small for that) to hang the tobacco so it could dry out.

    upload_2020-9-29_16-0-1.jpg

And finally, if you ever drive by a barn that has the sides open like in the photo above they are allowing air to circulate inside
to dry out the tobacco before it goes to the 'stripping room' (usually beneath the barn) to prepare for transport and sale. I never saw the tobacco stripped - maybe it was X-rated? :notsure:

Last year my buddy was wanting a tractor with a loader. I sent him a link to this one on the local classifieds. It came with a backhoe as well. It was less than 5 miles from his house and he didn’t have a trailer at the time. He decided to drive it home. Halfway there the front end locked up because it was dry. He didn’t know, it cost him close to $2K to fix it after having a rollback pick it up. It’s a nice little tractor though.
