@bludweiaer so after seeing the 2017 Pro suggestion, unless you want things like the sunroof and heated leather seats, I would definitely hold off for a 2017 Pro.

Like others have said, the 3rd gen fever will die down, don't let that drive whether or not you think the truck is special. Weigh the features alone.

Who said I'm upset ? I think it's kind of comical how much the 1st and 2nd gen owners voice negative opinions about the 3rd gen trucks. I'm sure some have good, valid reasons, some don't other than it's not theirs.

Do you need to know, or care?
Wow, had I known I wouldn't have spent the extra money. Pair of leather seat covers and one those heated pads that plug in the lighter...you got yourself a Limited.

OP, up to you. If financially it's not an issue, and if you like what your buying, do what feels best. I traded in a '13 with 16,000 miles on it and have zero regrets.

why were you laughing? Thats the going rate for trade in. Unless you're one of those that thinks they deserve private party sales figures on a trade.

Limited will have leather. heated seats. climate control. blind spot monitoring. and parking sonar. Oh and a premium JBL system (7 speaker)....LOUD

I'm a sucker for leather so I had to get one.

As to all the 2nd gen owners ripping the 3rd gen: jealousy is a b****. I've owned a 2nd gen and my biggest complain was how sluggish it felt and how low you sit in it. It feels like you're driving a car. Yes, it's a proven engine and drivetrain but the 3.5 Atkinson is a proven engine as well. Also consider you're purchasing a Toyota-not a GM. You'll cave into pressure a buy one eventually....and you'll love it. I've never been more happy with a vehicle in my life.

Financially, I wouldn't trade your '15 for the '16, or '17. You'll get hosed on your trade either way. Hold on to it for a bit longer, take the money you save and put it towards other upgrades if you want.

If it's a matter of looks, that's a personal choice and one you have to make for you and you alone.

Not about what you owe. It is about what it is worth. Sell it yourself unless the sales tax can offset the diff on a trade.

If it were me, i would hold onto the gen 2 until i atleast had it paid off and maybe even keep it a little longer, then buy a 3rd gen trd pro.

lulz....he's been fighting the tard fight for over a year now. He must secretly love
the new truck to devote so much time to hating on the new version of what he has. :D

2nd vs. 3rd gen aside, I've never understood the appeal of trading in debt for more debt. By the sound of things OP either had a sizeable trade in/down payment on the '15 Pro or has been doing a hell of a job paying down the loan to only a $10k balance after 18 months. Either way, why not see it through to the finish line and save that extra cash? Might roll out of the dealership with the keys to an '18 or '19 Pro with no loan attached in a couple years.

Here is the thing. You and everyone else knows that Tacomas keep their value. Do not trade them in to the dealer. Privately sell it. I sold my 2011 TRD OR access cab for $24,000. Dealer wanted $19,000. It just takes a little effort and you will find a buyer.

Dealers try to get away with murder.

keep the 2015 trd pro, I would have gotten one, except dealers still wanted 40k for them. Which I think is nuts.

My Finance professor said that the average difference between what dealers give as trade in value to private sale is around $4,500. The internet makes it so easy to sell a car privately.

Also ask your dealer about doing an "In and Out". You bring the private buyer to the dealership and sell the car directly to the dealership and they sell it right back to your chosen private buyer. They can usually do this for free and is the only way to get the tax savings on a private sale.
