Wrong, but thanks for trying, sure maybe thats what some suckers are willing to take to get into the newest and greatest, but I'm not one. Trade in is $28-30k on my truck (without lift and tires) dealers are selling similar trucks for $30-32k. Sorry but I'm not going to let a dealer give me $25k for my truck to make a $6k profit on resale as well as pay MSRP on a new 2016.

you dont seem the grasp the trade in value - resale value concept.

But please do continue bashing the dealership because you dont understand.

I do, that image is trade in value from KBB, so basically the dealer was offering me way below trade in value, $25k on what should be $28-29k in which they turn around and sell for $32k, I understand if they offered me what is fair trade in value, $28k to make $3-4k on the truck, but offering $3-4k less than fair trade in value to make $6-7k in profit on my trade is scummy. Which is why I laughed out the door. Not my first rodeo. And if anyone seems to be missing the point its you, apparently pictures in your case don't help even.

I think he saw the $32K figure in bold font and thought you were trying to say that was the trade-in value. Just a guess based on his previous posts in this thread. Just sayin'.

I hope. I'm sitting here trying to figure out if I'm crazy. My point was dealer offered me a lot less than what was trade in value and wanted MSRP on the new truck, hence the laughing which is what he initially questioned.

Before I bought my Taco I had owned a 2005 F150 XLT regular cab long box 4x4 with 62k miles. Private party bluebook value of 10,900 in good condition and this truck was in exceptional condition.

Dealer offered me 8,800 on a trade in. I chose to sell it myself and found a buyer within a week for 11k cash. I felt I could have gotten 12 if I waited.

In summary, you ALWAYS get boned by the dealer for trade-ins. Don't rush and sell your vehicle yourself.

If the dealerships were not full of total bull shit and lies and were more straight forward about things I don't think there would be such hate for dealerships. I'm just surprised some crazy dude hasn't shot up a dealership yet.

I would wait for the 2017 TRD Pro , I wish i would have waited. Dont get me wrong my sport is sweet but the power loss compared to my 2007 is pretty big but i do get way better MPG. Enjoy your 2015 one more year you wont lose much on the trade in!

This exactly. I understand they have to make money but don't treat me like an idiot and don't try to take total advantage of me. Then when you call them out on it they have nothing to say, maybe its because the 2016s are so easy to sell right now and some one will walk in the next day and pay full price. Its just ridiculous how greedy and scummy some dealers are. I drove out of state to PA and did the whole transaction through email because of how dishonest and ridiculous the dealers in NJ were. I don't think I could work in that industry.

Traded in '14 dblcb trd off-road with 33k mileage on vehicle no mods, kbb was 27k dealer offered 26k and 1k off new '16. Had equity on the trade so I thought it was reasonable. Sure private sale is always gonna net more cash but there's no hassle with trying to sell it on your own. But hey if you don't like the dealers offer you can always walk.

FYI, If dealerships gave you what you're vehicles were worth as trade-ins and then went through their various PMI's or certifications to offer them as CPO's (Certified Pre-Owned), they would be losing money. They are required, by law, to ensure all safety systems and basic engine components are in good working order in order to sell a vehicle.

All of you who are griping, bitching and moaning about the dealer offering you $1-2k lower than what you think your vehicle is worth obviously have limited knowledge of how a business works. There are a ton of associated costs involved in reselling a motor vehicle as a professional business. Selling your vehicle privately, you're not bound to ensuring all safety systems are up to snuff, tires have adequate tread, brake shoes/pads have a certain amount of life left, etc. You just sell as-is and go. Just like a "pot-lot" would.

So please, PLEASE, realize the difference. If your time is worth the $1-2k to sell your vehicle privately, by all means, do so! But don't start bashing a company for attempting to run a successful business.

**Note: I do not own, operate, or work for a dealership, car sales company, etc.**

There is no way in hell it takes $6k to PMI and market/advertise my 2015 Tacoma trade in. That's some crappy business efficiency if so.

At what point did I say $6k? I specifically said $1-2k in the very post you quoted....That accounts for tire replacement, which is typical, and a basic walk-through of all of the vehicle's systems

They offered me $25k for my trade, they will sell it as the current market is going for $30-32k, that's a $5-7k difference. And my truck has brand new tires, its a 2015 still under warranty, etc. the PMI would take an hour tops even at customer rate that's $100/hr labor, plus maybe $200-800 in doc/title fees, etc. that they will pass on to the next buyer. So yes there is no way in hell it would take $1-2k to get a 2015 to be ready for sale, and what $1-2k quote, I was talking $3-4k at minimum.
