LMAO at the idea a dealer is only making one or two K on a trade in, especially when we're talking about vehicles only a few year old and less than 50K on the odometer. They're making a bundle and anyone who says different is more naive than a two year old believing in Santa.

Oops.... Sorry to those of you who still believe in Santa.

Take a deep breath. I didn't say you weren't getting hosed. But there people posting up quotes of $1-2k less than what they want and getting all flustered about it. And you're somewhat right. To pay a technician to PMI a used vehicle isn't very much. When you have to start replacing things that are required to be in new condition, it starts to add up. I never said anything about your truck. Relax.

It's very condescending and childish to start a post "take a deep breath" and end it with "relax". Just because someone disagreed with you doesn't mean they're emotional. So... STFU. How's that for condescending ?

Rog, and I agree KBB on my truck without a lift and mods (which no one cares supposedly about but the dealer will still sell for more lol) is $29k and they sell currently for $32k, so $3k profit there if they gave me fair trade, my point was the scumminess of offering me $4k less than fair trade in value (which toyota.com uses on their site!).

Some dealers are more trustworthy than others, and some are willing to hose the customer to make a buck rather than worry about a long term customer relationship.

Case in point: When I bought my 2006 Taco I was trading a Mercedes SLK. I took it to Carmax before going to the Toyota dealer, and I went to both of them on the same day. Carmax: $13,500 offer, Toyota dealer: $7,000 offer. I'll admit that Carmax would probably be able to sell the car faster, but to offer nearly 50% less on the trade was highway robbery.

Needless to say that dealer didn't get my business. I sold the car to Carmax and went to a different Toyota dealer, and ended up having an amazing experience.

I think we all realize that dealerships are in business to make money. Making money is great, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge them that. But thankfully, we have so many options these days if we want to take our business elsewhere when we feel like we are being taken advantage of.

Do you need to know, or care?
Agreed, dealers low ball you. But for me, when I did the math, the tax savings made sense to me.

$31,500 for my used truck, saving me $3780 in tax on the new one = $35,280.

Dealer had my trade-in listed for $36,500, so even if I could get that price, I would pocket about $1200.

That is IF they got that price for it, I highly doubt it but I don't know, it sat in their lot for 3 weeks before it disappeared.

Wow, that escalated quickly. Was I talking to you? No, so mind your own business. I simply made a point. If you want to get your panties all in a twist over someone else's conversation, by all means. Don't be so quick to chime in when it has nothing to do with you.

Totally understandable, man. I didn't mean any disrespect, whatsoever. Some folks around here seem to get really, really hurt over little things. I just see it from both angles. But starting off a negotiation by offering you that low for your trade is pretty ridiculous, not to mention downright disrespectful. For the mere sake of you getting the best value, hopefully you keep your PRO and get what you want/deserve for it a little further down the road. Either way, good luck and let us know what you decide!

Oh not my truck, I love my 2015 DCLB Sport, its my 4th tacoma, when the 2016s came out I test drove both a sport and off road and both dealers were the ones that played the insult game, and thats what my point was, is don't insult me/disrespect me with a ridiculous offer like they did, distasteful and needless to say I don't advise friends to go there or would I ever go to either dealer, then again it's Jersey and people/atmosphere here are crappy to begin with.

The limited IS ugly IMO! I think my sport looks great, the chrome, rims, tail lights, and whatever else they did on the exterior of the limited is not for me. Keep the pro, wait for the 17 pro, or get a 16 sport or OR.
