Depends on a number of things 1st is the geographic area 2nd trade or private sale 3rd new car or used trade in 4th price of new vehicle. If you trade up to new the dealer is not going to give much if anything for the mods. Check with KBB or true car and see what your truck is trending at and if you are near a CarMax store see what they will pay for it. I'm afraid with the mileage most dealers would look at it as an auction vehicle.

That's what I was basically told. They offered me $9,500 trade. Kbb states $10,200 fair trade value and NADA says $11,500

Not terrible. But they gave themselves some room.

The things I learned about searching for a truck at stealerships:
    - it is your $. Walk away if it is not what you want.
    - the aren't the only show in town.
    - have a price in mind before hand (trade in/what you'll pay)
    - be patient, it will come along

    Good luck.

I hear you there. Now ill explain the deal. I have been looking into getting a 2nd Gen Tacoma (want the extra room and power) I found one for $27,745. It is a 2012 Double Cab TRD 4X4 with 24,000 miles. It is already under retail by about $5000. Clean CarFax and AutoCheck. Was told that the same dealer sold it new from their lot and have all the service records on hand. I may have found my unicorn.

Nice. I got my 2011 with 31k on it last year April for $25k. Same ballpark figures, it seems.
    One owner?

Very nice. I think you will be happy with it. I know I am after trading my 01, that I really didn't want to let go of.
    Good luck with your "project".
Post up the pics when you get it.

It is a great place to live and wheel (hence the want for a Tacoma and not a full size haha) Born and raised and have no plans for leaving.

    I wouldn't leave either.
I was getting my son up in the morning yesterday and I told him we had a "Montana morning" here. :)
Have many great memories from there.
    Best of luck.

@sull625 you would be better off listing it for sale than trading it in. You could list it for $15k and sit on it until someone gives $12k cash, less headache, less paperwork. You have a pretty sought after truck, 04 DC 4WD with a locker and it's a 1 owner? Sit on it you will come out on top.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I would keep that first gen, you'll regret getting rid of it. I had a second gen before and would never go back, they aren't as high of quality IMO.

That aside, I believe you can get more than 11,500 for it. What part of Montana are you in? I'm in central, Lewistown area. Glad to see another Montana Taco owner here, especially one with a first gen! Seems to be a rarity in these parts, everyone and their mom drives Cummins and Powerstrokes.

I paid almost 15k for my double cab, non TRD 4WD with 74k miles on it at the time. They hold their value like no other. Too bad I'm not still looking or I'd be all over yours, that thing's beautiful!

Well I got the deal done, I will miss my first gen. It is a great truck. Sadly it just didn't have enough room for my family. I really like my new truck though. I kept my wheels and tires too.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1437208289.942056.jpg

I'm southwest Beaverhead County. I know I made the switch but I'm looking for some good 4x4 trails.

A little late in this instance, but here's a bit of advice from a former "stealership" salesman. All that ever matters is purchase price if you don't have a trade-in, and the amount of the difference paid if you have a trade in. Ignore both the price quoted for the car that you are buying (especially if you are wanting to buy a used car) and the trade-in figure. Both figures can be screwed with from now to eternity, but mean absolutely nothing.

Saw far too many people worrying too much about their trade-in value (which fascinated me, because they're trading the car so they don't really love it that much, do they?), and end up paying more for the car they purchase while thinking they got a great deal.

I actually really love that color, one of the best! Hope you enjoy it. If I get a decent paying job again I might get a 2nd gen double cab for my wife so we both have something reliable. Her Ford Explorer is a big piece of crap, I wouldn't trust it if my life depended on it.

I hear you there, I really did love that truck it was just too small. I was able to get the asking price down and ended up at a pric I thought was reasonable. I noticed that the dealership listed my old truck for $14,995 which I think is on the high end but plausible. I purchased the new one at $27k.

I am happy with the way it turned out and I really love the color.
