I swear when they designed that shit box it went something like this

“We need a 6cyl that gets good mileage”

“What about this piece of shit sitting in the dumpster out back?”

    “That’ll do!”

The Frontier's V6 is the best part of the whole package. It's literally a stroked out 350Z engine.

That said, that is the ONLY good part about the truck. The interior is cheap and dated, the handling sucks balls, the steering is vague, the brakes are vague, the transmission is meh... My 4 cylinder Taco beats it in every imaginable aspect except for the motor, which I will concede to it being a damn impressive unit.

So take it for a test drive, if you can live with a downgrade in every aspect aside from the motor then you do you.

Since they are soooo long in the tooth since their last refesh, there are a lot of incentives if you really need that 4x4...

Frontiers are legit. A bit dated but proven, I almost landed in a Pro-4X. I wouldn't touch a Chrysler product with a 10 foot pole though.

It wasn’t terrible on my jku rubicon with 4.10s, but still. No thanks. Terrible in pretty much every power band

Those Pro 4x models look decent got bilsteins on them as well. Yes that motor is strong too bad they wouldn't let Toyota put it in the third gen.

Thank you all for input. I guess I just stay away from American brand then. No wonder why ram 1500 so cheap compare to other.

    Work in progress...
Maybe get some rear lockers on your Tacoma and live with it for at least a couple of years longer. Then you can get what you really want instead of what you "can" get...don't ask me how I know.

I'd take everything you read on here about Ram, or any other non Toyota truck, with a grain of salt. Just turned over 62K today on my 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi crew cab. It's never seen the inside of a shop for anything other than scheduled service. I've made the round trip from central Alberta to northwestern Ontario 12 times now. That's 3000km (1800mi). Just completed the latest trip this evening. It's a quiet, comfortable 15 hour drive in the cab of that truck. I quite look forward to the drive. And the highway mileage is slightly better than my old Tacoma. When I'm out in Ontario, I live three miles down a washboard or frost heaved road, depending on the season, and my truck is as tight and rattle free as the day I drove it off the lot. I've enjoyed this truck more than any other vehicle I've ever owned. My experience with Ram has been an overwhelmingly positive one. It's a choice that was made easier from knowing several friends, family, and acquaintances who have also had a positive experience with Dodge/Ram trucks. Having said that, I wouldn't be scared to buy a truck from any of the manufacturers. They're bread and butter vehicles for many of their makers, and they can't afford to make a crappy one.

Depends on what you full size or midsize... This may not be the best to ask though as most will say Tacoma! I would get a 4x4 either way cant imagine buying a truck without it.

If you get the Ram, make sure you get the 5.7L V8. The V6 is junk and you will not get better mileage than the V8. I have owned the 5.7L and have gotten 24 mpg on trips.

Man, they are dicounting the shit out of GMC & Chevy 1500's around. I personally would never own another Chrysler product. If I went full size it would be the Tundy or Chevy 1500.

I did test drive a chevy before and I did try the sierra, all I can tell is their transmission hunt for gear like crazy, they behave like they ready to slip anytime. New 8 speed ain’t get any better. I would take tundy over Domestic truck anytime but money

I did a test drive with frontier SV today, except the engine and 4x4 everything else feel so cheap. I have no problem with handling or transmission at all, but anyway not so impressive. I imagine ram is much better than frontier but reliability keep me thinking.
I do some trail running, never get stuck with 4x2 but I imagine 4x4 could help if I get stuck somewhere

A rear locker could be what you need, unless you are doing some more hardcore stuff. That would be my vote if you like your truck otherwise

OP. If you like the Ram full size get it. If I did I would only go hemi v8 in that truck and price isn't much difference and you will be ## ahead on down the road when you trade over v6. to me I think all the trucks are nice and what works for u is all that matters. As other poster said it will be better ride and comfort. Now if you prefer midsized id try to find deal on 4x4 Tacoma new and trade.
