Let’s say in a equal scenario that the amount of payments you have made have now made your trade even with your payoff. That is difficult to achieve after just 2 years but let’s say it worked. Only now, you’re looking at buying a more expensive truck than your 18. Those payments are only going to be higher.

I don’t mean to offend anyone but I’ve never looked at material things in life as to what I could afford. I’ve always looked at what I wanted and then figured out how to make enough money to afford what I wanted.

1st world problems for poor people. Everyone wants a nice ride but have trouble with the math part. Your underwater so basically screwed unless you are stuck with a high interest rate then refinance with lower rate if you can get it. If not then you need a big chunk of money or just pay $100-150 extra on your truck payment for the next 18 months. Then you MIGHT be in a better position to get rid of the truck. It’s sucks I know but work all the OT you can and put it all on the truck payment.

Or just sell it for a lot and buy something else for a little and save 10-20 grand.

    None....yet.
I actually went the other day to kick the tires on a new OR. I ended up leaving rather unhappy about the $20k they offered me for my '16 with 40k miles. They called me when I got home and tried to lease me a truck I didn't want and said I was "stupid not take this deal." Gotta tell ya guys, ill be keeping mine for a while before I go through something like that again. Keep your truck. Pay it off. Sell it privately.

Alot of good advice here. I have been vacilating on whether to trade my 17 for a 20 and have thought about alot of the same situations with paying more money. I empathize with what you are asking, but in the end you are losing money.
