I actually like the Tundra, I think its a great looking truck. I dont like the interior and the fuel economy is a turn off. I live about three hours from family and if I was to upgrade to a larger trailer like a slideout bunkhouse, the mpg will take an even larger hit. We enjoy the outdoors and were blessed to live in the mountains. I will be using the current and future trailer(s) very often. Thats why diesel was in the running.

Towing, it’s no different than any other 1/2 ton. You’re looking at 11-12mpg, typically. Unloaded driving, I don’t think you’re too far off of any other 1/2 ton V8. I can see the merits of a diesel if you’re towing quite a bit but I still don’t think they pencil out financially. Plus no messing with DEF, worrying about regen, the noise, the smell, etc. Maybe if I bought a 30’ airstream to tow around.

I came real close on Sunday on trading in my 2014 reg cab, 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual for a new ZR2 extended cab, V6. Take it for a test drive first. Personally I was less then impress with the it.

I really like my Tacoma but if I was a new buyer looking on this forum you would never buy an auto from all the guys on here saying manual or nothing.
My buddy has driven GM diesel trucks for years and will continue to, he has had good luck with them. I'd just make sure they include a bumper to bumper warranty for 5 years/100k miles.
My VW golf has almost as much torque as a Tacoma 240 ft/lbs to 276 ft/lbs but the car is at 1700rpms for that. Awesome car to drive in the mountains.
    Unless your into drag racing.

When I bought my 19 taco I sold my 2012 2500 Cummins to my dad. I miss the gobs of power that thing had, the massive interior space, towing 12k pounds and not knowing it’s there and getting 22mpg on interstate trips. I have also had an 07 tundra. It towed great as well. Not as much weight but did very well. For a 1/2 a tundra is 100% the way to go! I have a couple friends that had the 3.5 eco boost fords and they both traded for tundras. They both said the tundra is superior in towing and power.

Yeah I did more research. Turns out no brakes on trailer, bombing it down a hill at 40mph.

Still... wouldn’t get the Colorado. My father in law has a 2019 zr2. It’s nice, but I like my 4.0 too much.

Yeah I did full deletes on it. DPF/EFR throttle valve. S&B intake Jamo 4” straight exhaust. Blackmarket performance cat fuel filter adapter and a fuel rail plug. Tuned with a shitty H&S mini max. And yes 2012 was the last year before they introduced DEF

I like Tundra’s but them 3.5 Ecoboosts can pull like a freight train. Power is very impressive.

Get a full size. A friend of mine has (had actually) a ZR2 with the duramax. Blew 2 turbos in a matter of a year. This is not an isolated incident, according to his dealer who serviced the truck.

I can’t say personally as I’ve never driven an ecoboost. Just what my friends have said. My grandpa also use to transport vehicles from one dealer to another. He took an ecoboost from Knoxville to Indianapolis and only averaged 15mpg I think he said (this was like 5 years ago)

I drove a 2.7 a couple years back when the 18’s were just arriving with 400lbs of twist. Impressive power but the $175 fill up cost from empty was not desirable. We pay some of the highest if not the highest fuel cost in North America here. Mpg and increased power are factors. And dont get me wrong, my weight is pullable, the tacoma does it but you can feel that its taxed.
