Is most of your gear for photography (i.e. needs to be protected)? If yes, do you even need a truck with moisture-prone bed storage? Maybe a more capable SUV? Or do you have other gear as well for camping, etc?

The camera quality has had mixed reviews especially on the resolution but I do like the idea of it. The top adds for me was the head unit and the power seats possibly the LED headlights. Not sure if the manual got the speaker upgrade since for some weird reason it prevents JBL being installed. There might be more used ones, I was referring to more if you wanted a 2019. Manuals are hard to get your hands on too since they only make approx. 12,250 out of 245,000 Tacoma's made a year.

The rebuild isn't that bad look at the schedule and pricing. Obviously like anything else it depends on how you drive and where you drive. https://www.ridefox.com/service.php?m=truck&ref=topnav

I would suggest trying both and seeing what you like. Aftermarket options aside, I test drove the OR and Pro and the suspension feel is night and day different.

The goal is to get a shell for the taco, potentially a GFC so I can have covered storage. I'll need it for the winters in CO. Or else the storage is going to be useless. I'll add the decked storage drawers first, since they are waterproof and a cheaper first mod. Then I can add the shell later when I have more money saved.
I have camping gear, usually travel with a lot of food/water since I have a weird diet, dog and all his food and stuff, camera gear, computer stuff. I have a roof box on the subie and it helps tremendously. Having more storage in the truck seems like itll help a lot. I also will be using the truck to haul around firewood which I don't want an SUV for. I've thought about an SUV but I am in one and it's limiting me so I feel the truck will be used better for waht I want todo.

I see. I think having it even at a low quality is nice. But everyone else is wheelin without it for years lol. I think it would be nice though for off roading since I don't go with a group and my gf wouldn't have to get out to spot me.
The head unit is a big deal for me I think the speakers are an option w/ the premium tech package. But i might be wrong.

Have you rebuilt yours? Its very dusty where I live and I think it would need to be done every 40-50k but I don't want to be out of my vehicle for a few days while its happening. Not yet anyways.

My .02, give the Crosstrek to the gf as an engagement gift, sell her car private party and get your taco!

Have not rebuilt mine because I'm only at 23k miles on mine but part of it is that we have to pay to play I guess. The head unit is cool but not work taking a bath on trading it in. Only thing I'm curious with on is if the seat now lowers because that was an issue I had being tall and head clearance and why I intentionally went with a 2018 over 2019 for my Pro.

    4Runner?

and a small trailer for the occasional firewood trip.

you’re leaving an suv, for a Tacoma for storage issues.

now you’re going to have a small cab for you and the gf. The dog will consume your back seat, now you’re left with the unsecured and open to the elements bed. A decked system only offers so much until you get a canopy, which then is only so dust proof for I’m assuming sensitive camera gear.
A 4Runner would be similar to your setup now, just with a lot more room.

Keep the Crosstrek if you plan to do a lot of out-of-state road trips. It sounds like you do since you’re a photographer and rack up a lot of miles per year. The Tacoma is terribly slow on the interstates.

If you've overheated the crosstrek then sell it. As a former Subaru service manager and owner I've seen so many go to shit after they've been hot.

I recently traded in a 2011 Tundra rock warrior and a 2013 Impreza sport premium for my new taco and have no regrets. My wife has a 4runner off road and if you don't need the bed for anything I'd go with the 4runner, it's more comfortable to drive.

Really late to the party but my 2 cents.

Buy a well kept land cruiser/tacoma for 10-12k as a designated off road vehicle and keep the Subaru as a commuter. Saves you from having to commute in a vehicle that gets worse gas mileage and has a worse ride than a car. Financially smart decision since your Subaru is already paid off, if you search for a little bit you can find some really nice used off road designated vehicles whether that be a land cruiser or a older Tacoma. I have been considering selling my truck and getting a designated gas saving commuter as well as getting a designated off road vehicle, driving my tacoma around denver for the last few years has made me consider this. The ride compared to a car isn't that great and having to worry every time I go off road of getting scratches and dents on a 33k vehicle is pushing me that way, not to mention breaking something and having your only vehicle down.

What is the cost of keeping the paid off car per month including insurance etc?

Take that cost and weigh it vs the amount of days you use it? 1 day a week?

So is the cost of the insurance worth it?

At one time I had my truck, an suv (paid off) and my Harley (paid off) for myself. Figured that was too much. After a month. Sold the Harley which I should have kept but had gotten hit (side swiped) three times in three months. Kept the SUV for dog purposes cause she was a hiker and swimmer so the mess out of my taco. Sold it after my dog passed. So ideally I would have kept all three for different reasons. Taco will be paid off in 16 months so I’ll probably go back to a Harley as my DD.

I see. I'm not very tall, and found the seating position comfortable. I bet the fox is awesome. I think eventually I will upgrade it, but I want to experience the truck in stock form for a while.

A big part of getting a new vehicle is getting a MT. 4Runner doesn't offer it. I like them but like the Tacoma more. The dog is 40lbs so not huge but there is storage under the back seats and all kinds of space it seemed to me more so than my Crosstrek. I plan to get a shell and my gear is stored in bags so dust isnt a huge deal. My camera gear is tough and just that, gear. If the drawers are a bad idea and actually limit space, then maybe I'll reconsider though.

Here is a link to a photo I took of it on Ophir Pass: https://i.redd.it/3dtdrph7qsa31.jpg
    :)

I am definitely driving a lot but still would want to take the truck to have a bit more storage and capability depending where I go. One plus about going slow is keeping me from driving too fast. I'm considering everyone's feedback, there is a lot of mixed opinions, but a lot say keep the subie. I have time to decide and will think it through.

My AT Oil Temp light came on. I backed down the hill and parked it and let it sit for hours before driving it again. I dont think its the worst but man it was crazy seeing that come on and it seemed like the car wasn't working that hard. But it was at 11,000 feet or so.
I'm glad you are enjoying your new tacoma, I am really feeling having one and getting excited. Its what I want.

This is one of my biggest hang ups. The subaru is so good on gas and itll last a while. I could wait a year or two and save up for the truck and keep both. My patience is the only thing thats holding me back.

The subie is like 90/month to insure so its not too bad. Would use it 3/4 days a week for commute.

    My STI burned Oil.

Motorcycles are dangerous man. Scary. That is a lot of vehicles lol. Why not put the dog in the bed of the taco? That seems ideal to me.

Keep the Subie, buy truck also

You might be surprised how little extra it is to insure the second vehicle...you can only drive one at a time anyway

Fuel savings dailying the subie with the mileage you drive would help to if not completely offset some of the other costs

Others said the 4Runner, which is honestly my suggestion (for snowy commuting). But you want a MT. Are you sure that all the options you want are even available with a MT? A couple of my mandatory ones aren't even offered with a Mt in 2019, don't know how much has changed... Just a heads up.
