Yep. When I decided to make the move to an automatic I also decided I was done with payments. Now I've got me a paid off v8 4runner and I'm a happy camper. I loved my 4cyl 5MT but those extra cylinders are nice.

NY is a state that deducts trade in value from the taxable amount. Oddly it's a reasonably cheap state to own a vehicle in, none of that vehicle property tax nonsense and registration runs around $50 a year or so for most.

Texas does the same on trade for tax on the new vehicle. And free and clear is the best. I never buy new and always pay cash.

Dealers even want the sr tacomas, I didn’t expect that. I was offered $20k trade in value for my taco and paid $24k for it in 2018.

OP sounds like he got one of those postcards saying “people keep coming in asking for your truck, we’ll pay you top dollar for it” and he’s biting.

4 banger is a gutless turd. I test drove one and ended it early in disgust because it was so slow.

OP if you can really get a deal (and NOT GET TAKEN FOR MSRP) I'd do it in a heartbeat. Especially because you tow.

I've gotten those since day one, what I have been doing is watching the market. And everyone's taco is worth alot more right now considering they are selling trucks that aren't even built yet.

Do you need a v6? I only went up from my 4 cylinder because I went from an access SR to v6 double cab with manual trans. Couldn’t get the manual double cab any other way. I miss my 4 cylinder. And 31k seems high, but I am comparing it to what I paid for my 17.

You don’t have an offer, you have a range. So, they’ve not seen your truck or given an offer and you’re thinking of upgrading. That’s exactly how that marketing works. Just saying.

Grab a new rig if you’re wanting it but I’d actually take the truck in and get a formal offer on what they’ll pay for it before you get too hot and bothered about the next truck IMO.

Its hard to comment on the financial aspect other than to say that those seem like fair numbers for your trade in and new truck price. If you can afford it and the new truck and upgrades are worth it to you, then go for it. I traded my 17 SR with the 4 banger for my 18 SR5 with the V6 (and tow package) because I decided to get a boat and I would need to tow it. Obviously, trading in a 1.5 year old vehicle has downsides financially, but it was worth it to me and I've been happy ever since. Good luck

Wouldn't that mean the upgrade is more expensive as well? Seems like it would make more sense selling now and buying later.

I second this especially if there starting to lurk towards electric assisted and such.

Its still pretty gutless, I love my mpgs for sure but that drastically changes when driving with the ect and or s mode on. I drive alot for work. Amd have tried out both.

Lol wasn't going to gamble with the $25k or so (or whatever the price was at the time, probably more) of my money on the chance that it MIGHT get better.

The acceleration of the 4 cyl Taco was comparable to my 1977 Ford Pinto station wagon 2.3l 4 speed manual. That's saying something because that Pinturd was an abominably slow vehicle that could have been passed up by any lawn tractor.
