You guys in AR need to see how we do these sales in MO -- the private party sales are treated the same as dealer trade-ins you are only required to pay sales taxes on the difference in both kinds of sales - In fact you can sell your original vehicle even before you get your newer one as long as the transaction takes place within 90 days

Dealer gave me $40k. Couldn't walk away from that.

After owning the Tacoma for 2 years there were things I was just not happy with and didn't want to live with. I had a Canyon before my Tacoma and sold it with 200k miles and liked it a lot.

It wasn't about the money. For me it was liking what I drive everyday. Not bashing the Tacoma at all, it just wasn't for me.

yes congrats. I had a 16 colorado when i ordered when diesel first came out and ran it 2 yrs and 57k miles and other than few warranty issues truck ran great. I just wish they would do something different on interior looks and also wish they would offer push button start and a power rear window.

one thing i learned is I got one of those quick key release chains so the fob wouldn't dangle and keep hitting the steering console. Just fyi if that bothers you

I would negotiate the terms on the new truck before even introducing the topic of trading in your old truck. That way you have solid numbers on both transactions and not a muddied up conversation that dealerships love to put you in so you never know the real numbers on the trade in and new purchase.

Shipmate - I typically subscribe to that same belief until I tried to sell my Tundra. I priced my Tundra at what I thought was a great price. Somewhere above trade in and below private party and got zero interest. I traded it in for close to what I was asking and end up making more because I traded it in, that offset the purchase price and I only paid sales tax on the difference. @ 7% tax rate that saved me $1500 alone. Not sure if the rules are the same everywhere, but you really need to look at the whole deal to determine if it works better to sell.

    Yeah.
I did not know that -- they may do the same here. I've just only traded in Tacomas for the longest time and they hold their value. I tell them what I want for the trade and what I will pay for the new vehicle, they can take it or leave it.

    Nice looking truck, OP.

All depends on the numbers. Also how the State taxes vehicle purchases. In AZ we pay sales tax on the difference between new and trade. Sometimes that sales tax savings is as good as trying to get a bit more selling the vehicle yourself.

I generally trade each time. less hassle.
