I've always been a VW Doka fan, and the Canoo truck is pretty close. It'll be interesting to see what the market looks like in a decade.

I fully plan on owning an electric one when this ones at about 120-130k. That should be 5-6 years.

So I have questions about your anecdotes. You worked at a Ford dealership and overheard the techs talking, you say? What Ford models are you talking about that fell out of battery warranty already? If not Fords, what EVs, specifically? Most auto manufacturers warranty the battery of full electrics something on the order of 8-10 years, which means you're talking about full electrics from what, 2013? Like, what cars were there at that point? A Nissan Leaf (which had an original 8 year battery warranty, I think).

But if you were talking about traction batteries on hybrids, not electrics, then say that....and then I'd be interested which model cars are that difficult to service. We had a second gen Prius in my family in for a new traction battery. It took a repair shop like 25 minutes to swap it out. (It took my brother a half of a day to do it himself, and he didn't even put the seats back in, LOL.)

Waiting until the tech matures would make sense to me though. Don't worry about depreciation or parts going bad -- it'll happen less with electrics but the auto manufacturers will still find a way to make it cost a lot even if it's simple.

My model 3 is almost 3 1/2 years old. Spent zero on maintenance, hasn’t been to service once and spent zero on power to charge batteries, runs completely on my over sized solar panel system. Has gained many new features over the air, even increasing my range. Originally 310
Increased to 325, still can charge to 318.
If I were to give up my 2016 tacoma 4x4
Or, I’d only by a Tesla product, they have most experience with ev, and don’t build ice cars.

Ya gotta give the new Ford EV Mustang a chance. It pipes vroom vroom sounds into the cabin when you accelerate. Seems pretty silly to me. This link takes you to the place where a reviewer comments on it.

I don't like how the Tesla will sometimes disable itself in the event of a small crash, and can't limp out of the travel lane. This isn't exvlusive to Tesla, or EVs.

I also don't want to have to plug in a vehicle.

#1 good luck finding (Ever) finding a non profitable (to Tesla) $39K cyber truck.
#2 enjoy the 200 mile ACTUAL range towing any thing above 5000lbs acting like two Apollo recovery chutes! Then find a charge.
#3. True. Then again, neither of those options cost as much as the Tesla, even the 3, nor do they cost nearly as much to insure, plus, you don’t need the computer screen and multiple menus to open the glove box, and, go ahead and wait three months for body work if you have an accident.
#4. I pay 4 cents per kw here in Vegas 10 pm to 8am for charging, during the day, my panels do it even though 99% of the time we charge at night
#5. Purely subjective, but cybertrucks look stupid. Even if they were mad of unoptainium they still would look stupid.
#6 the final one, VW is going to kick the crap out of Tesla in the long term.

Why not embrace what an EV is?

Nothing wrong with a quiet interior.

OP, have you driven an EV? I was very excited about Rivian and considered putting a deposit on one...until I drove my friend's Tesla P100D. Fast as hell, no doubt, but the experience is completely numb. In as few words as possible, it was like driving an iPhone. I enjoy the mechanical nature of ICE cars too much to let it go, no matter how much theoretically faster, cheaper, more reliable, efficient, etc... EV's are. Highly recommend you drive any EV to see if you feel the same.

I love the look of that stupid cybertruck. It's like someone finally built the truck we were promised from the design language of the '80's Tron.

I didn't read through all the posts.. but, did anyone have any thoughts on how wheeling would EAT UP that battery in a matter of hours. And then..... you are stuck. Or you bring a solar charger and sit for 12 hours and charge it.

I could be wrong on this.... but, it sounds totally stupid unless you use it just as a commuter. As other said, buy a leaf and keep your taco for the fun. Of course, if it was not for all the gvtm rules/regulations and BS, you could probably get a leaf for $20K and a new (normally $40k) Taco for $30k.... sounds perfect... in another world.

They may be second to Toyota as they are bringing Solid State batteries to market first. They have EV's announcing in the next upcoming months.

Did you see the interior of the Wolf? That screen is going to get knocked off the dash board.

I don't object to an electric power train. I think a less electrifed EV would be a better vehicle. No need to power every component on the vehicle.
