They're more for a better planet than efficiency. If you can get a 600hp truck it doesn't matter what you put on it. You might have to plug it in more but it'll be more efficient.

I want nothing to do with an ev. I'll run Dino juice as long as I can.

Because by God that’s what real men do, we drive gas guzzling flame throwing thunder sounding real trucks. GTFO of my face with this whirring buzzy electric truck talk. I bet you guys use an electric razor too.

    NOPE!

So, what are the options after a natural disaster comes through to wipe out the electrical grid for weeks or months?

People moan about gas prices, cost per kWhr will skyrocket. Probably add a surcharge to the electric bill for environmental clean up for the generating plant. Remember, the largest portion of electric generation is fueled by coal or natural gas.

Article says "well over 200 miles" and that is off roading in 4wd, not your typical highway commute. The truck has an EPA rating of 314 miles.

Also, that charge rate of 16mi/hr is with the mobile charger which is basically worse case scenario. You will typically change on your L2 home or work charger or on a DC fast charger while on a trip.

I've done several multi day road trips in Tesla model Ss and Xs utilizing the supercharger network and it's really not bad. You just need to plan ahead. The tradeoff between generally charging at home or work and almost never having to think about fuel other than the occasional road trip vs the weekly ritual to the gas station is one you'll need to calculate for yourself.

Your not going to get anywhere near 200 mpg in 4WD for true off-roading. Article says they used 2WD and “conserve” mode for the flat roads in their mostly off-road test.

    I like internal combustion :notsure:

I also have zero interest in paying for the expensive batteries when they inevitably fail.

You're going to have a better chance of seeing God than the grid being wiped out everywhere for months. Nationwide hurricane? Nuclear bomb? You'll have nowhere to go anyway at that point. Oh, and the gas pumps won't work either.

This is something I thought of, too! Not much different than what they do with electric forklifts.

Not saying the grid is wiped out nation wide......

The vast areas hammered by hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, forest fires........

Of course you could drive your EV 100 miles to do a 16 hour charge, then drive back......to end up with a nearly depleted battery.

The difference being that it takes 5 minutes to fill up with gas while charging an EV takes hours.

And, you can fill up a few gas cans for extended range. Not the case with batteries.

Because in emergencies there is never a giant line at the gas station.

I'm sure the line at the charging station would be shorter.

It is longer than topping off a gas tank for sure but not hours. Rivian says 20 minutes for 140 miles.

So you're comparing years of ICE cars with electric cars in their infancy? Seems short sighted.
