I have a 2013 DCSB 4x4 TRD Sport with backup camera and towing package. I have the hood deflector , tonneau, and Go Rhino tubular side steps. 12500 miles. Since I got it my situation has changed so I was looking for something with higher MPG and more comfort. Anyway, the best trade in value I have been able to get has been 26k?? Can that be all this truck is worth already? The online sites say around 29500. I thought these things held their value better? My first gen was like driving gold. W hat is going on? I would have settled for 28k, but could not get them up at all. I thought the used market was strong?

    Thoughts?

That actually sounds like a really good trade in offer. You can't compare it to selling price. A dealer will NEVER pay retail for a trade-in.

Depends where you are... thought I read some states like FL th resale isn't as high. Also, non-OEM accessories don't add much value and you'll prob recoup more by parting out.

yep, every business has to keep the lights on.

Want a higher price? sell it yourself or see if they drop the price of the car you're looking to buy.

I was in the a similar situation, the dealer was super excited to get my truck but when they made me an offer if was ridiculously low. I went in with an idea of the absolute minimum I would take considering they have to make money but the offer they made was just so far off I got my keys and walked out.

The 29500 is the trade value, not resale. I am just going to keep it. Not worth taking a huge hit. I know the dealer would list it up at 31-32k. I have purchased a 2011, 2012 and 2013 cars from them so I was expecting a little more since I consider myself a good customer.

Trade in is always going to be low compared to selling outright. The dealer isn't going to give you $29k only to and sell it for $29-$30k. They want I make some profit.

First off your truck is fairly new why get rid of it? If I were you sell it on your own for a better value. Mods dont do anything to value. easier to sell a stock truck. Tacos have great resale and I have seen it time and time again. Friend of mine totalled his 2009 sport DCSB with 70k miles- insurance gave him $25k.

what did you pay for it new? 30-31k probably?

I personally think the resale on tacomas is retarded high. Used trucks should not sell for the same price as a brand new one...

Just be glad you didn't buy anything other than toyota...the resale would have been much lower..

I would have settled at 27500-28000, they could still make money. I would pull my bolt one off. There are NO trucks around me with less than 15k for under 30 grand. IIf there were I would have never bought new.

I just looked it up on KBB. In my area you'd be lucky to get 27K for trade in

I forget exactly but I think the sticker was close to 33k new. I can sell it myself for sure but then I have to deal with payoffs and loans and all that BS. I sold three cars myself last year. I wanted to trade to get the tax credit back.

I just went to the dealership today to kick around the idea of a Tundra.. They offered me 25k for my 2010 with 24k on it.. However it would have then been the only Tacoma on their lot, new or used. They didn't have a single other one. The guy told me that when they get a used tacoma, it is typically gone within 3 days around here. That is also the reason that it is so difficult to bargain on the price of one. If you don't buy it for their asking price, they don't care because someone else will. And I believe him on that. I looked for mine for about 6 months until I found it, and I bought it before they even had detailed it and put it back on the lot. It's all about supply/demand.

I sell vehicles for a living and can say not another truck on the market holds value like a Tacoma.
They offered you around average for a trade in. 29k is retail. That's what they can sell it for. 99% of dealers go by NADA Guides. They do this because they gotta buy it. Send it through the shop to be checked over by $103 an hour mechanics. Every worn parts replaced, urs would be toyota certified so that's more time in the bay then it has to be detailed which cost them more $$ so they have to figure these numbers in too because the mech and others doing their part are getting paid normal wage to do their job. Then they can sell it. By the time they are done on your truck they will have around 27000-27500 into it then they will sell it for prob around 30k and pay a few hundred in commission to the sales guy bringing them prob $2300 in profit. That's how it works. I'll attach a nada clip of your truck.
PS take the tonneau and deflector cuz they can't and won't account for its worth so u might aswell sell it.
