This is just a theoretical question since in SoCal Tacoma values are so hard to figure out and there aren't any comparables on the market used.

I found a DCSB TRD OR w/ 6spd manual for a great deal and am considering trading my SR5 auto in for it.

    My truck: 2016 SR5 4x4 Auto DCLB w/ 24K miles

KBB is always generous. Any ideas what you guys think the value of this would be in the real world?

    Thanks for the input.

Trade in is a magical number a dealer will shuffle around to make the buyer happy.

If that's what you want, you'll have to work with a dealer.

If you want to know how much to sell your truck for on your own, that's a whole 'nuther kettle of fish.

Price out the difference using options here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-model-package-option-costs-master-list.388345/ and discount for mileage.

Pulled from the list, here's the base... Your options are actually more expensive factory:
    7570 - SR5 DOUBLE CAB 4X4 V6 AUTO LB...................... $ 30816 | $ 33720
    7545 - TRD OFF ROAD DOUBLE CAB 4X4 V6 M/T................. $ 30642 | $ 33530

There's no way of knowing for sure. Like Bill said, it will depend on the dealer. You might be able to make it work for only a few thousand. Can't hurt to go in with a number in mind and see if they take it.

What makes you want to trade? Don't care for the automatic? Have you test driven the manual?

Have you grown tired of the long bed?

And if you really want to know what the trade in allowance is, make your best deal on the new truck as a cash purchase. Once they've nailed down a number, THEN ask what your trade would be worth.

    That'll make it interesting.

This. Also tell them you're paying cash or with a bank check (that you're pre-approved) make sure you are, of course. Then once you have the prices all worked out, see if they can beat your pre-approved rate.

Get Carmax to evaluate your trade-in first... negotiate the final price of the TRD OR w/6SPD before even mentioning trade-in... then and only then, have them evaluate your trade. It won't even be close to the Carmax eval. Then break out the Carmax eval for leverage... they usually get close but won't match. (*my experiences in the past)

Hard to believe you found a used 2016 with manual transmission floating around in SoCal... I'd be cautious and visually inspect every minor detail as well as request a Carfax. There was a BBP TRD OR 6SPD manual in Glendale a few months back that had super minor front end damage (either bumped a car or wall at low speed) and it had snapped bumper mounts and what not. Passenger fog light was barely hanging on, bumper didn't sit quite right and none of the seems lined up right anymore... but the Carfax was clean.

FWIW... used car dealers are the worst to deal with. Unless you get an unreal deal, you'd be better off waiting a few months and buy a new 2018. You'll get it exactly the way you want and will likely have a better experience as well.

I just sold my 2016 TRD OR manual trans to a local dealer for 31k. I bought it out of state for 32.5k and they put it up used for 36.5k. Had 22k miles on it.

So id say resale was pretty good, especially 4x4 in SoCal. You may take the shaft though if you paid socal prices to begin with.

This is all very helpful everyone. Yes, the automatic drives me nuts. The longbed is great for trips but most of the time it's empty, bed length really isn't a big concern. It's mainly the transmission, the upgraded suspension, and interior options. The locker is cool, but I might use it twice in my life. I am pre-approved with letter in hand so the financing part is taken care of. Buying a car is such a time waste so between that and convincing the wife we shall see.

Smitty- I haven't driven the manual yet, so looking forward to trying that first.

Describe the truck by the way, I'm in SoCal and if you happen to be looking at the truck I sold to them....well....i can guide you on a few reasons why I traded it in.

Definitely try to test drive one. I've seen some guys still complain that the manual transmission still feels gutless and you have to race it to keep it in the power band (3500rpms +)

Ok isn't my truck. That actually seems like a decent website based price. I don't see if it has the tow package though, you may want to consider that as it is quite an effort (as in not worth it) to install that later.

I asked for the window sticker so I can see options first. Tow hitch is one feature I need.

Yep this is the truth. I found it very odd and wasn't a fan for the time I owned it.

Probably kills your gas mileage driving like that too. So the alternative is to row gears like a granny and still net worse MPG than the auto because ...well... it's a manual.

Yeah, sometimes small local credit unions are the best. I was approved from USAA originally but got down to .9% through a local union that the Finance lady offered instead of the 1.9% I was originally approved of.

That's right. USAA service is great but their rates overall are not always the lowest these days. Same with Navy Federal, pennfed etc etc.
