After about 5k miles, my 17 auto ac sr5 started to get a lot better shifting. And the mpg got better also. Happy with the truck now.

$32k?! It's worth more than that, what's the "notoriety" ?

Hey man im practically in the same boat in terms of negative to resell value and what they offered me for the new truck. my tips to you are search every dealership and call and ask for a quote for a new truck upfront. Lock in the deal then talk about trade value, etc. Also id say not to go back to the same dealership you went because I called 3 other dealerships they offered me 2k extra w/ blind appraisal, then my own dealership who actually did an appraisal.

They aren't going to give you more than KBB Trade-In value. If they do, it's because they adjusted the pricing somewhere else.

Also, be glad they even offered you that much. Mine has been wrecked so my local dealer said they'd give me $24k, max. :(

Payoff should have nothing to do with trade value. Some dealers use it when a positive number to persuade people to take a low ball offer which the first one always is. There are times that they will not budge. Happened to me when I bought 2017 Tundra. I worked them down on new one to where they were complaining about not making a profit. It was all done on email and over the phone. I was mot planning on trading Tacoma but thought I would give them the opportunity. They made one offer and would not budge. I said no thanks i will sell myself. They said good luck. At this point I was still plan on on buying new one from them. Next day I was pissed about lowball offer and cancelled the whole thing. Don't get too wound up like I did when they make a ridiculous offer for trade. I got so worked up over it that I was prepared to rush down to another dealer that I had been dealing with and had a truck I wanted. Never get in a hurry when buying a vehicle.

32k seems a little low to me for a fully loaded auto 2017. The manual will be a little cheaper. Honestly I traded in a 2016 sport, manual, without the premium package and around 15k miles. I still got around that sort of trade in. The amount you owe will just be subtracted from the trade in amount so they can pay it off. If you had negative equity, which you don't from what you're saying, they would have just tacked on the difference to the new truck. Keep what you got for now. Let the dust settle. People hate on the autos too much honestly. They do have their quirks, but they aren't too bad once the learning is finished. In the end though only you know what you truly want and would be happy with. If you pay them off quickly then trade, I would just wait until it's paid off. There will always be more Tacomas for sell.

Swing over to Huntsville/Decatur if you want a quicksand. They are all stocking 3-5 of them. Its a bit irritating because there are now a lot of them on the road around here now.

    You don't feel exclusive anymore?

Imagine how all of us Cement PRO owners feel now that everyone will have a cement. Can't wait to sell mine next month, before every bubba, raul, jesus, tom, joe, grandma, has one.

Resale is not hurting on the second gens and they are far more notorious than the 3rd gens.

Someone doubted the value of a used 3rd Gen because of "considering the notoriety of the 3rd gens"

Apparently no one is " considering the notoriety of the 3rd gens" on new sales....That's all...

when I traded in my taco, I traded it in to the dealer I bought it from. It was very close to what KBB top dollar was. Your selling dealer may be more willing to work with you since you would be a repeat customer and they know they are going to make more $$ off you if you trade. Ignore the low ball dealers.

If you or anyone expects a dealer to pay you market value on a trade in, you do not understand how this works and should just stop.

No negative equity here. Should I keep it, I'll have it paid off within the next 2 years. I'm not setting sail on it just yet, but rather entertaining options. OVTune is high the option list. Just watching that thread for now.

Hows the Tundra? I was on the fence between the two when I was buying. The main reservations for the Tacoma was the drivetrain and the other finicky issues folks have had. I would prefer the interior space of the Tundra, but love the storage and aesthetics of the Tacoma. That and I could get a decked out Tacoma for a good bit cheaper than a basic Tundra. Now I have wondered if I should have just ponied up to start with.

Not out of the realm of possibilities. QS would be my only choice if I change Tacos, but black is pure sex.

I bought mine new for ~32.5k (in a different state), put 1.5 years and 22k miles on it and sold it outright, no trade, to a local dealer (SoCal) for 31k.

I personally think they offered too much for it and when they made me that offer I couldn't hand them the keys fast enough. I believe it is still on their lot since they tried initially selling it for 36.5k (lol). Last I saw they had moved the price all the way down to ~32.5k, only listed at $1.5k more than they gave me.
