I am looking to trade in my Tacoma for a full size with V8 for more towing capacity. It's 2020 Tacoma TRD Offroad Double-cab, AT fully loaded with 20k miles. Edmunds and KBB are saying $39k and sounds high. Anyone have real world offers so I can know what to expect?

Also probably going to part out in exchange for OEM stuff.. Someone will get some good deals. TRD pro headlights, TRD pro grill, 4runner trd pro wheels+tires, led fogs, firestone airbags, bakflip g2 trifold tonneau

32-40 but it depends on what you want to trade it for. New trucks they usually give you more money than if it's used for used.

Im looking at certified preowned RAM 1500 with hemi. But new is available $6k cash for people switching brands.. 0% apr for 72 months. The problem I'm seeing is that the same trucks were available with as much as 30% discount in 2019/2020 now are selling for MSRP

edit: one of the websites made a $35k offer on my Tacoma. I think it was carmax. Carvana offered 30k

prices are regional, look in your region
this comes up daily here. Best bet to get quick and easy online quotes, then see if local dealers can match or outbid. Of course you can get more selling private.

    I traded my 2019 DCLB OR 4x4 with 65k miles for $31k.

The problem with selling privately is that I will be on the hook again for the taxes on the next purchase. In New york its almost 9% sales tax.. Terrible

Yeah I shopped Rams a few years ago and it was 31-35 for big horn 4wd now it's probably 45. But on the bright side Tacomas were 31-35 for offroad too. So your trade in is worth WAAAAY more than it would've been 2 years ago.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I get that, but if you sell privately and can get $2700-3000 more than the trade-in offer it'll make up for the sales tax.

I don’t blame you! I hate selling vehicles and I’m in sales!
I trade in and just shop in those quotes.
Oh and my great state of MO allows us to still use private sale credit towards next vehicles taxes at the DOR.

Selling cheap cars is easy. Selling anything over 5-10k can be a pain in the ass unless it's a classic car. The vast majority of people do not have 20-30-40 thousand dollars in the bank and if they do they're not shopping for a used Tacoma or F150 with 62k miles or whatever they are looking at brand new.

I have almost the identical truck with a few more miles, I have been monitoring the offers thru carmax for a while now, They have fluctuated and dropped recently mine looked like this

    2022
    Jan/ 38,000
    Feb/ 36,700
    June 37,00
    July 36,000
    August 34,000

So that 35K offer is probably about right cosidering the lower miles.

I would like to find the month-to-month appraisal changes for the RAM. I paid 42k before TTL on my Tacoma so the carmax 35k trade in isnt too bad after nearly 2 years of use. I have to try to play with numbers and see if I can get a good deal. I'm going to see Toyota for the new Tundra SR5. And see about a new RAM big horn

I'm sure the Ram did not hold its value this year as strong as the Tacoma, as it never does. I have owned 2 Rams 1 was a 1500 2wd and the other was a 2500 Bighorn Crew Cab 4x4. Both of them had atrocious resale value.

Ram has either done a better job building them the past 2 years, or they are not selling as quickly as I see more of them on lots than either Ford or Chevy since the covid shortages started. Which is why I think you are seeing incentives cranking up on the Ram.

They are not horrible trucks, quite comfy and mine were reliable, so if Ram is offering purchase incentives, price breaks and finance breaks, it may be a decent buy in this day of everything market up over MSRP etc....You will probably find the Tundra overpriced as most seem to be.

Good luck finding a new Tundra in stock or reasonably priced. My local dealer got one in and let me take it for an hour. When it came time for crunching numbers they wouldn’t come off a $10k market adjustment, so I walked.

KBB says my 'stock' 2020 TRD Offroad is worth 40K. That's around 5K more than I paid for it. The problem is I would have to replace it.
I don't want to end up driving a Camry :)

Carmax cash offer will be about what you really get as a trade.

Trade is a dealer win. Or they wouldn't do it.

If the trade offer is way higher than the carmax or carvana offer it just means what you are buying is overpriced

I was shopping full size before I bought my 2019 Tacoma. I noticed that too at the time full size selling 30% off, and would make me worry about NOW paying full price.
