My lease is up and dealership is offering to buy the truck back plus give me 1,600. And they said I can remove all my non stock items. The $1,600 won’t get me far with accessories into the new one though, I can’t switch out everything I have and I also have a twin turbo kit coming. Suppose I coukd put that on the new one though. @OVTune ? I have about 46k on it. Should I work something out with the dealer or keep it?

 

Have you looked around at the current value of your truck?

 

That's the problem with leasing and then adding/modding to your taste.
Find out what your Tacoma will sell for in your area as-is before you commit to a new one. It may make more sense for you to buy out the lease.
I don't know the details of end of lease 'gotchas' - never leased a vehicle and probably never will.

 

Kbb has my truck valued 500-1000 more.

 

What's your residual compared to the trade in value?

 

Just under 26,000 to buy it. They would give me 27,500

 

My residual was 27k, I just bought it out. Same boat with mods... might have done differently if it was stock, but no regrets. Mainly didn't want to start back over with payments on the same truck, and didn't want the TSS with new trucks. 1600 really isn't anything especially with the used market. Look at Carvana's offer as a comparison.

Side note, not sure why everyone bashes leases. Get learned up and they're a good option depending on who you are. If I deployed at any point I could turn it in, how do you beat that get out of jail free card?

Now how do you like the truck? if you love it buy it. With how over valued they are it doesn't make sense to buy a new one right now

 

The value will be there if you trade now or in 2 years. For what it’s worth, dealers around here have similar trucks on the lot for well over 30k, so I don’t think getting 27 or 28 is worth letting it go

 

Also keep in mind that you will have to pay taxes if you choose to buy out the lease. I’d estimate them to be around $2500.

 

You sound committed. I mean it's not like you didn't know this day was coming when you clicked the order button on your mods......

 

Depends on the miles ... and if you want to move up to a off-road or pro .. but if your buying the same truck And you have low miles I would just buy your current truck . Prices for new trucks are stupid atm .
