Or do your research, you'll probably find similar evidence/facts pointing that way. I love tacomas as much as everyone else here but they arent the greatest end all be all everything. Thats like the raptor thread on here earlier today, guys trying to say raptors are for show and overrated compared to a tacoma...so much TW kool aid.

This is the kind of stuff I like to hear. Can't agree more on the last part about what could make the Tacoma the perfect truck. The extra rear legroom might be something we all will continue to dream about until our time has come.

One thing I was surprised about. The JL backseats and front legroom was so much better than my taco. I couldnt imagine having kids back there in my taco. Usually just me or at the time gf.

A few days after i drove off the lot with my brand new 2018 off road, it started sounding like there was a kazoo under my truck at 20-30 and 50-60mph. Went directly to Tacoma World to see what was going on. The dreaded diff howl...

I had the TSB, it didn't eliminate the sound, and here we are nearly two months later, still without a fix. Dozens of phone calls, multiple trips to the dealer, getting the run-around from corporate ("it's normal").

I now hear slight noises from about 25-60mph. But there are a couple spots where it's loud. Too loud for me to comfortably take a road trip on 55mph highways.

If I were you- I'd be test driving something for as long as you can before dropping the funds (and learn exactly what to look/listen for before you test drive).

It also shifts kinda funny (even after the latest TSB, although it's improved).

Prob not what you're hoping to hear, but that's been my experience with the 3rd gen so far. Good luck.

My 16 had the diff howl, I was lucky toyota was new to the complaint, replaced dif offered me free 125k platinum warranty then dealer helped me move to a 17 OR when it didnt resolve. I'm at 12k now and just heard it again last week on this one. Frustrating, time will tell if its a long term/more serious problem or nusance.

No sir, that's exactly what I want to hear. I'm hoping I can give a small deposit and maybe they'll allow me to test drive for a couple of days.

It's small little shit like your situation that will aggravated the living hell out of me. Definitely don't want to get into a truck to only find myself chasing these minor annoyances.

So you're on your 2nd truck with a diff howl? You'd think the chances would be slim.

Yep. And they were different. First was a 16 4WD DCLB SR5, this one is a 17 TRD OR DCSB 4WD. I don't think Toyota really knows whats causing it. I usually can't hear it cause I listen to my music at a decent volume, but if the cab is quiet, right around 50mph you can hear it.

Can’t help you with the noise since I’ve never had it, but I am OVtuned and I think you would be happy with it once 1.05 arrives

I know we tend to fear the unknown... but the idea of uploading aftermarket software to a new vehicle is a foreign concept to me. I'll have to read up.

Yah it was a bit weird at first, but after first drive I had a smile ear to ear. You could always get the newest TSB

You really need to ask yourself what's the most important use of the truck. An ecoboost engine is just going to flat out haul a trailer better than any Tacoma. Tacoma is better for offroad, due to size, clearance, suspension and decent feature set. Yes the Taco can technically haul up to 6400, but it's not very happy doing it.

Let's face it if your typical truck usage is hauling, stick with the Ford or some other beast variant (Dodge, Chevy etc).

I understand you had a tacoma but once I no longer have mine I sure as shit would no longer post on this forum as I would have zero need for you miscreants lol.

Btw I owned a few rangers in the past (I know dumbass me lol) they were huge pieces or shit, no idea why so many people like them. Also at my worksite we use all the full size domestics, I prefer the new rams over the fords but all the domestics even our $70k plus loaded ones just have that overall cheap american build feel you just cant shake
